Flights are cheapest up until about 3-4 weeks prior to your travel dates. As you get closer to the travel dates, the rates go up. We recommend booking as soon as possible to ensure the best price.
No, our partner in Mexico, Baja Christian Ministries will provide tools and deliver the building materials. However, we encourage you to purchase your own framing hammer to bring and leave for the next group. It is not required, but the ministry can use all the help they can get. We will stop at Walmart/Home Depot on the way down to Mexico for anyone who wants to purchase a hammer, paintbrushes, work gloves, etc.
Yes, every person needs a valid passport for travel to and from Mexico.
Border crossings are safe and easy, but can take 20 minutes to an hour or longer. PATIENCE is a word we will use over and over on our trip. We have to be flexible with time in Mexico. We call it “Flexico.” 🙂
No vaccinations are required for travel to the northern Baja region of Mexico, however, an updated tetanus shot wouldn’t be a bad idea! (It is recommended every 10 years by the CDC.)
The minimum age is 12 years old. All minors need to be accompanied by a parent/guardian unless special provisions have been made. There is also only one price, regardless of age. We strongly encourage families to serve together, just know that you will be responsible for your children at all times. Please email firstname.lastname@example.org to discuss your situation.
No, we have team members with years of construction experience and many who have never lifted a hammer in their life! There is so much more to this trip than just building houses, including many opportunities to serve without any physical labor.
Yes, all deposits are non-refundable. We use deposits to secure hotel rooms, reserve charter buses, pay catering deposits, and order building materials.
(The only exception to this is if the current trip is full and your deposit is serving as a placeholder on the waiting list. If a spot never opens up for you, your deposit will be refunded)
You will not need any cash while in Mexico, but we encourage you to bring cash for additional snacks or souvenirs. It means a lot to the local economy when we spend our money there. We will visit a local market with dozens of shops full of clothes, bags, trinkets, art, and more.
Not at all, we will have several interpreters to help on the trip. If you do speak Spanish or at least learn a few key words and phrases, it will be a great help. We need as many interpreters as we can get!
