Debut Marks Biggest Street Week in Inpop History
(NASHVILLE, Tenn.) May 14, 2009—newsboys debuted at No. 1 this week on the SoundScan Christian Albums chart with its fourteenth studio release, In The Hands of God. The album, whose title track also recently topped the Christian AC radio chart, additionally claimed No. 1 on the SoundScan Christian Adult Contemporary Albums chart, Soundscan Christian Digital chart, No. 1 on iTunes’ Christian/Gospel Top Albums chart and No. 28 on the Billboard Top 200. The occasion marks Inpop Records’ biggest ever street week in its 10 year history and the first No.1 record for newsboys since releasing Adoration in 2003.
Jeff Frankenstein of newsboys comments on the response, “After 20 plus years of being a band, all we can really say is ‘thank-you’! We are truly blessed with wonderfully loyal fans.”
Produced by Max Hsu (Superchick, tobyMac) along with newsboys’ Peter Furler and Jeff Frankenstein, In The Hands of God boasts the classic rock sound that has made newsboys’ music legendary among Christian music fans for more than two decades. Featuring 10 hit songs, including “No Grave,” “The Way We Roll” and “Glorious,” the album additionally includes background vocals by Michael Tait of dc Talk, who recently stepped into the role of new frontman for newsboys. In The Hands of God, the last album on which Furler will sing, is an autobiographical record and a tribute to God’s divine providence over newsboys’ long-running career. The band recently wrapped its 35-city “Join The Tribe” tour this spring.

Awesome! I got the album a week ago yesterday, and have loved it all! I think it’s a great ‘last album’ for Peter as lead. He did great.
I’d heard that Mike was in there somewhere, but didn’t really notice where. Can anyone tell me which songs he’s easiest to hear in?

Wow! You all really earned it!! its amazing. I have them all memorized by heart!! It really was a great last album for Peter! I will always remember this disc in that way. But now we will be blessed by Tait’s voice through the songs!!!

Hey, Nashville should create some type of Jesus Star Walk of Fame, something where outstanding christian artists and visionaries could be recognized by their hands or footprints, for their landmark and ground breaking recognition of great work.

Congratulations! I’ve been listening to Newsboys for as long as I can remember; they’re my favorite! I’m sorry to see Peter go, but man, what a great run! Will he still be singing with the group for this summer’s tour?

Love the “In the Hands Of God” album. I’m so addicted to it that I can’t stop playing it!!! It’s a great way for Peter to end his career as lead singer for the Newsboys. I would also like to know which songs Michael Tait sings in. Will always be a loyal Newsboys fan!!! =(

Did Not Disappoint. Love everything on it. Even my Wiccan daughter will listen to it ^_^ may be a useful tool to get her back on track.

Hey guys. Just wanted to say, make sure you keep God first. The album is great. I heard a comment when y’all were interviewed and I think Duncan Phillips said the key to your success is good music and management. But I would argue, maybe GOD has something to do with it, at least that’s what I hope. Please don’t forget to continue Peter’s legacy of always giving the glory back to God in all you do.

I love, love,,love this album!!! I cut my christian music teeth on the Newsboys way back in the 90’s. I have every album except for the first two. I have been to two newsboys concerts and both times I was overwhelmed with how much more like church it was than a concert. Peter gave a heartfelt testimony and I really respect what the Boys are doing for the Kingdom!!! Welcome to Michael Tait, and so long to Peter, I will miss you.

I am soooooooooo glad this album is doing well, especially since it’s Peter’s last album. I LLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVVVVVVVVVVVEEEEEEEEEEEEEE it! I think “Glorious” is sooooooooooooooo beautiful!

I really like 3 songs off the new cd, Thats the way we roll, In the hands of God, & There cover of Hillsongs Lead me to the cross. This is a good cd, but in my opinion the “Go” cd was better. I’m still having trouble listening to Newsboys songs knowing Pete’s not the front man, it just doesn’t seem right.

Best band I have ever seen live. Ever song you have ever written has a way of speaking out what I feel really feel. When you came to Alton Towers in the UK for the Ultimate event you were awsome. For me the newsboys was always about Peter and Phil Joel But I also loved DC talk so this is an evolution i could learn to love, good to know peter is still writing.

The new cd is wonderful. I got it on a Saturday and could sing along with the cd by Sunday. My family is sure I am obessed but the Newsboys have out done themselves on this cd. Thank you Peter for living a life of integrity and showing Jesus to the world. I will miss you terribly. May God continue to bless and use the Newsboys in all that they do. Thank you again guys for an outstanding legacy. Until we meet in heaven loves always.
