After 22 years and more than 2000 shows, newsboys frontman Peter Furler will no longer front the band in concert. Michael Tait will be touring with the band as lead singer with Peter making special appearances throughout the year.
Peter will continue with the band and his trademark songwriting and production will remain as he focuses his professional career toward future newsboys recordings.
Michael has been on the road with the band over the past weeks working alongside Peter in what has been a positive and enjoyable experience for both parties. It has been a graceful process that both Peter and Michael have worked through as they prepare to make the change in the coming weeks.
Peter states, “newsboys to me has always been a mission, and I entrust Mike, Jeff, Jody and Duncan to continue all that is in store for us as a band. I’m looking forward to focusing on the band’s studio career and spending time in my own bed after many years in a tour bus and hundreds of thousands of miles on the road.”
Wes Campbell, newsboys manager, explains, “Whilst the decision to replace Peter on the road was a painstaking one, when the idea of dc Talk vocalist Michael Tait was presented, it was a no-brainer to all of us. No one can replace Peter, but we know Michael will bring a new attitude, energy and vocal style that will thrill our audience. To be able to continue a world class show and still have Peter behind the scenes guiding the career and making of newsboys music is a huge opportunity for all of us. It’s amazing that after many years of touring with dc Talk in the 1990’s, that in 2009 our paths would cross once again. It’s an exciting time for all of us.”
“For years dc Talk and newsboys have been family and thus shared the same loyal and adoring fans,” says Michael Tait. “When I received the initial call from newsboys to consider joining the band as lead singer, I was speechless! I immediately sought wise counsel and flooded the heavens with endless prayers for insight and vision, and I soon received a clear and definite peace. Last weekend, I had the opportunity to perform my first show as newsboys’ frontman to an audience of 12,000 people. I was completely wrapped in love and support by newsboys’ fans, who are clearly the best fans on the planet. Now I know this is exactly where I belong in this new and wonderful moment in my life’s history. This is a definite highlight of my career and for my 20+ years of walking with Jesus, and I am humbled, proud and privileged to call myself a newsboy.”
In the coming days, Peter will be releasing a personal statement on the band’s website in more detail.
The band has recently finished recording its new studio album, In The Hands of God, which features Peter as lead vocalist on the entire album. Street date for this record is May 5th.
With five gold albums, sales exceeding six million units, more than 20 No.1 radio hits, and a mantle of Dove Awards as well as Grammy nominations, newsboys has achieved phenomenal success in its two decades together. Known for its amazing live performances and groundbreaking tours, the band continues to sell out festivals and concerts worldwide, satisfying diehard fans and winning new ones in the process.

To God be the glory! Peter, thank you for all the years of pointing people to Jesus through the music and ministry of the Newsboys. I’m looking forward to the many ways God will continue to use you to proclaim His name and glory. Michael, congratulations on entering this new season as a Newsboy! I know you’re going to rock the house as you preach the gospel through music. Godspeed!
March 9th, 2009 on 3:35 pm
Peter,
You guys provided the soundtrack to my growing up and growing deep into relationship with our God. I thank you so much for your leadership within this band. You have been an inspiration to me and my worship. I got into singing within my church’s worship team because I wanted to help lead others towards worship with the same passion you displayed every time I saw you and the Newsboys. What an impact you’ve had on me. God bless the Newsboys, as well as you and your family.
March 9th, 2009 on 3:40 pm
Hey Peter and the guys,
I am thankful for all the times we’ve shared. Pete.. no one can replace you in my heart. You truely helped me throughout the years. You know that. Thank you for telling us in person. I means alot. I love you! Michael - get ready to rock!
March 9th, 2009 on 3:44 pm
Peter, you all have been such inspiration in my life but you alone truly touched my heart with your vocals. I felt, and still do feel, as if I’m listening to an angel when I hear your voice. I wish you all blessings in the world and I know that God will provide you with all you need on your new journey in life. Michael, I have to admit that I am shocked that you were chosen since your vocals are completely different than Peter’s. With that being said, I am truly excited that you are joining the band and look forward to see how God uses you! Best wishes guys!
March 9th, 2009 on 3:46 pm
Thanks for the update guys!
Its nice to know that God is involved in the situation and that the newsboys are going to continue on.
I can’t wait to hear the boys live now. They’ve always put on great shows but this is going to be interesting.
Can’t wait for the new album!
March 9th, 2009 on 3:46 pm
Peter,
I’ve been listening to newsboys as long as I can remember. You guys were the first band I really fell in love with. It will be so different not seeing you in concert with the rest of the boys. I will miss you so much! God bless all of you as you continue on in His will!
March 9th, 2009 on 3:55 pm

Michael Tait is hot! Of course he is my little brother, and we are very proud of him. We are also being prayerful during this transition. I wish you all God’s richest blessings.! Ann
March 9th, 2009 on 3:57 pm
Best wishes to you and the group. I’m sad, but life goes on…
Thank you for sharing your talents all these years, and thank Summer for sharing you with us all these years, too. Your family is important! Looking forward to seeing what God has in store for you and the rest of the Newsboys.
March 9th, 2009 on 3:58 pm
Michael, you will never, ever be Peter and don’t go trying to be him either.
We’ve “known” Peter in a fanesque sense for a long time and getting used to you instead of him will take time. Maybe a few hours, maybe a few years, and possibly all the time in the world may do no good. I, for one, am already behind you, though. I’m not used to yet, and shall likely always miss Peter in my gut but I welcome you and hope that together we shall see many miracles inside and outside the band. I’m praying for you! God bless.
Peter, thank you for the memories! The shows, videos, songs, everything. I hope for many more studio memories from you! I also hope to meet you one day!
You’ve got my support also. I’m praying for you! God bless. (Hey, now you’ve got a ton of time on your hands! Join some social networking sites!
JK.)
Jeff, Duncan, and Jody– Praying for you, as always. You’ve got my support, thoughts, and concert screams.
Can’t wait to see you in concert again.
March 9th, 2009 on 3:59 pm
Peter,
God bless you for all you’ve done. I really appreciate your excitement and enthusiasm for Christ and His kingdom. Please let us know how we can pray for you and your family.

Pete,
I will sure miss your voice!
Thanks for pouring your heart and soul into these songs/concerts over and over again. I appreciate your genuine, humble heart that I have seen in interviews and on stage. I will miss you. The sound will be different…. I am glad you will still write and be around. I wish you the best. Enjoy your time with family and friends. You deserve it!

You will all be in my prayers as this is a new transition for everyone! I am going to miss you Pete as the lead singer but I pray that God would continue to bless the ministry of Newsboys!
March 9th, 2009 on 4:08 pm
See ya Peter.
March 9th, 2009 on 4:09 pm
So my worship pastor just introduced me to the newsboys, and I’m going to see them for the first time in my life here in Chicago. I’m sad to see that Peter will be stepping down, but still enthused to see the newsboys. God is good all the time, and all the time God is good. God bless the newsboys !!!
March 9th, 2009 on 4:10 pm
I’ll stick around if I’m still entertained. So…get to practicing Tait :p.
March 9th, 2009 on 4:15 pm
This is both exciting and saddening. Although I am greatly looking forward to seeing Tait in the Newsboys, no one will ever be able to fill Peter’s place. Thank you so much for all you have done, Peter! I am glad you will still be behind the music, but it saddens me to not ever see you in concert. God’s richest blessings!
March 9th, 2009 on 4:21 pm
I’m shocked. I’m shocked. I’m shocked. Peter Furler is the Newsboys. I love Michael Tait. I loved dc talk. My heart is torn. My heart is broken. But Peter Furler is the Newsboys. I was at the Newsboys concert in Woodbridge where Michael sang 2 amazing songs with the band. It was awesome. But wow. I’m speechless. I have tears in my eyes and a big lump in my throat. Absolutely nothing against Michael. I just love Peter. I’m heartbroken. Why would they record and release a brand new record with Pete as the lead vocals, while simultaneously announcing that Pete is leaving the band?? Doesn’t make sense. Oh my heart is aching. Oi vey. :*-(
p.s. Michael, you are awesome and I will get on board. I just need to grieve.
March 9th, 2009 on 4:23 pm
Tait is the bomb.com! I’m pretty sure all of you should kick back, watch some Flight Of The Conchords, and get over it!
It’s going to be an exciting new time for all of us, and I personally can’t wait to see what happens.
In the words of Bret and Jemaine ‘It’s Business Time’!
March 9th, 2009 on 4:34 pm
Im not all the way satisfy with this but I know God is in control. and i have been a fan for many years now but I am really glad Peter is getting his time off. Michael Tait. Welcome to the group

God Bless all you guys…Peter, Duncan, Jeff, Jody, and Michael. Thanks for posting the statement today.
You and your families are in my prayers.
March 9th, 2009 on 4:48 pm
How crazy, interesting, and shocking the turn of events has been for Peter and the Newsboys in the past 24 hours. You will never find a more dedicated fan than me, I have been one for 15+ years. So, you can imagine all of this is very bittersweet to me.
Peter, thank you for all you have meant to my life and how the Kingdom has been advanced through your leadership and faith. Your walk has meant the world to me as well as the music of this band. I would love to meet you someday and tell you all this personally.
Welcome to the band Michael Tait-lets see what you got man! Im willing to give this new thing a chance.
grace and peace to the band.
March 9th, 2009 on 4:48 pm
Pete. We love you and will miss seeing you onstage. It is good to hear that you are not leaving the Newsboys for good.
I look forward to seeing Jody, Phil, Jeff and Mike on the road.

March 9th, 2009 on 4:53 pm
I am praying that the Lord will pour out His blessings on Peter now as well as the rest of the band! I am personally devastated as I have been a long time fan. I saw the Newsboys twice in the last year. In the rain at Six Flags in Arlington, TX and most recently last Friday in Longview, TX. I absolutely LOVE Peter & the way he interacts with the audience and other members of the band on stage. He is blessed with an amazing talent that truly glorifies God. I can’t believe this would be the end of his legacy with the band as their front man! Peter please come back or go out on your own so I can go to your concerts wherever they may be. No matter what, I pray that you will all STAY STRONG!!!!!!
March 9th, 2009 on 5:01 pm
Many blessings to everyone involved…I pray that this will work out according to God’s plan for all of you! <3
March 9th, 2009 on 5:01 pm
Michael Tate - Wow! You have some very difficult shoes to fill. Newsboys have been my favorite band for years!!! Good luck & God Bless.
March 9th, 2009 on 5:08 pm
Peter, we were honored to see you all perform this last Friday, while change makes our hearts break we know they break because they are growing bigger. Change is always difficult, but God is in control, and I think Micheal Tate is a God spoken choice to continue in the band. We love you and pray you get some well deserved rest and time with your family. Thank you for the years you have spent on the road in the name of Christ. We will be praying for the band as you all go through this time of transition. God Bless! Love from Texas
March 9th, 2009 on 5:14 pm
Greetings In the Name of Jesus!
Yesterday at church a woman of God shared with us that it is very likely that MOST of us believers have been in a time of transition (a period of time between the old being laid down and the new being put into place)…
Then she said, “The greatest danger to a new move of God is NOT the ‘old move’that IS NOT working or is going badly, but rather an old move that IS working and is working well.” For in that thing that works well, there is a natural resistance to the change that God desires to bring. We tend to eagerly view the IDEA of changes as good, until they actually take place, and then we want to cry, “that’s not how I thought it would be…”
My prayer is that God blesses each and every one of you involved, for truly it is His Holy Spirit that has made the worship in the Newsboys music what it is..in fact, it is His Presence dwelling within the group that has given birth to this avenue of worship. Thank you to each and every one of you for being willing to be obedient to His voice and for allowing Him to be magnified in each of YOU! Can’t wait to see what He does through you all! Many blessings and much love to you all!

May God continue to bless you guys in all that you do! You guys have always shown your desire to follow God’s call and to do His will, so we can be certain that his decision was made after a lot of prayer and discussion. Prayers for you all as you make this transition and deal with all the varied reactions it’s causing! Prayers for all of you to get some good rest & family at home before you head out for the next stop on the tour. We’ll miss seeing you, Peter, and Michael, welcome to the group!

Peter and Michael:
We will miss you terribly Mr. Furler but understand. Our prayers are with you as you seek the Lord’s will. The newsboys is God’s deal and He decides it’s future. We will miss your Aussie accent
Michael: welcome aboard! Seek the Lord in this new endeavor. Our prayers are with you. We look foward to what God will do through you, just as He did with Peter.
For Jody, Duncan, and Jeff: you have our full support and prayers. You have worked just as hard.

March 9th, 2009 on 6:02 pm
Peter, you are one in a billion. You have been such a blessing to me for many years. You have made the gospel fresh, fun, meaningful and appealing to not only my children and myself, but to countless souls who might not have connected any other way. You have been such a faithful worker that it is high time you and your family had rest. I am thankful that you will stay involved because no one, and I mean no one, has your way with words! Your songs make me laugh, make me think, and point me toward heaven. I especially want to thank you for “Let it Rain” and “Be Still”. Those songs are my life’s soundtrack.
Michael, you are in my prayers. You’ve got some big shoes to fill, but God has richly blessed you with your talent and your heart.
March 9th, 2009 on 6:04 pm
Peter, you will be missed. Thank you so much for your talents and presence on stage with the Newsboys. The music for the past 20 years has been completely amazing and such a blessing. Your work and ministry with the Newsboys will never be forgotten. Many blessings and prayers for you and your family as you continue to follow God’s will and plan for your life.
Jeff, Duncan, Jody, and Michael - Good Luck and Blessings to you all as you start a new chapter as the Newsboys. Keep on rocking, making music, and performing shows, and changing lives. The Newsboys’ music is one of a kind and is absolutely great to listen to. LOVE YOU GUYS!
NEWSBOYS FOREVER - In God, we trust.
In Him,
Liz

“Shine” is the very first song I have ever heard by a christian band. Ever since, Newsboys have always been my favorite band. I was sad when Phil Joel and Jody Davis left and rejoiced when I heard the news of Jody’s return. Peter, you have touched the lives of millions including myself. You changed the way I listen to music and God. My prayers go out to you and your family. I hope to see you return in the future, even if it’s just for a little while. Thanks for your hard work and dedication.
March 9th, 2009 on 6:29 pm
I am deeply saddened to see Peter go. The first concert I ever went to was a Newsboys concert at Allegan county fair. It was the best concert I’ve been to and I will forever miss you Pete.
I loved dc Talk as well growing up, so I love Michael as well. Though I know they have two different styles/voices I know that this has the potential to be a really great relationship. Especially with Peter still working behind the scenes to make this thing work.
I wish you guys the best, and you are always in my prayers.
Peter, thanks again for all your dedication through the years!
Mark
March 9th, 2009 on 6:29 pm
I have been a youth pastor and now pastor for 21 years and in that time have seen the Newsboys in concert over 15 times including one of our summer camps. I greatly appreciate and respect Peter - particularly his committment and ability to clearly share gospel truth. I pray for him and the band in this time of transition. I will miss him out front but expect great things from the band with Michael at the mic.
March 9th, 2009 on 6:35 pm
Speechless and very upset. I love michael but it is not the same without pete. But please newsboys stay strong! Im sure that you will continue to make great music. I will still be listening. With love from England.
March 9th, 2009 on 6:39 pm
This is so sad! Peter I hope you know You will be Greatly missed! I want you to know that I can honestly say that Your testimonies and interviews have encouraged me in so many ways,You have helped me through alot of things in my life and inspired me to want to seek God more each day. I understand being on the road 22yrs and needing a rest from it and all. I’m Praying and wishing you the Best and I know God has Great things for you in the Future.
Like you said “I truly believe that God has a purpose for every single one of us. I believe he has a plan for your life and its a plan to prosper ya not to harm ya to give you hope and a future.”
And to Duncan,Jeff and Jody. You have helped me through alot of things in my life too! you have our full support and prayers. You have worked just as hard.

March 9th, 2009 on 6:53 pm
I was so sad to hear you are leaving, Peter. Although, I do love DC Talk and Michael Tait. What a great combination I think Michael Tait and the Newsboys will make. You can never be replaced Peter, and I am glad you are not leaving completely. I hope this means you will still be on the KLOVE Friends and Family Cruise, since I am looking forward to going, and meeting all of the Newsboys. God bless you, Duncan, Jody, Jeff, and Michael, as you all make the transition.
March 9th, 2009 on 7:17 pm
I don’t know if Newsboys will ever be the same without Peter. However, we know that God has all things under control.
Peter, thank you so much for your heart of Worship…for bringing the Word at every concert and always presenting the Gospel in a way that was relevant to the hearts of people. May God bless you in this new phase of your life. You’ll be missed.
I’m happy to say that I’ll be at the NB concert in LA on the 21st. I’m sure it will be a concert to remember.
In Christ,
Ivy
March 9th, 2009 on 7:17 pm
Sorry to see Peter go. I’m proud to say that I saw him in concert 38 times, and can’t wait to see Tait front the band! I think my son is more upset than I, but he keeps asking when we can see the ‘boys again! Blessings to you Peter in your life, and thank you for all of the time you’ve dedicated to the band and to us (the fans). You will never be forgotten. Three cheers for Tait!
March 9th, 2009 on 7:50 pm
My wife and I flew out to see you @ Peckville Assembly Of God in Scranton, PA on 2/28/09 and LCBC in Manheim, PA on 2/27/09 from Marshall(Madison), WI.
Now I know God was at work so we could see and meet Peter before you stepped down as lead singer for the Newsboys. And want to Thank You again for helping build my faith stronger and God Bless you all. My wife and I will still follow and support the Newsboys and hopefully see you (including Peter) in Green Bay, WI. Yes after we got back you added a concert closer to us.
March 9th, 2009 on 7:51 pm
Hey Peter, Well Im glad that you were the lead singer, an i hope that you and tait will take turns and lead singing, but it is in God’s hand and that you guys will trust in him. Thank you for what you have done and will do behind the scenes. Good luck Tait

Welcome Michael! It’s going to be exciting hearing your sound on that stage! Welcome to the Family! We promise to make you feel RIGHT AT HOME!

Shocking……shocking……shocking.
Was sooooo looking forward to the Easter Celebration with the Newsboys in Miami, FL. Loved the GO Tour and had high expectations for this upcoming tour before the new albumn comes out. Due to such a special event (Easter Sunday), hopefully Peter will choose to visit and be a part of the resurrection celebration.
Michael and the NBoys, I will pray for your continued ministry.
Love the Newsboys…….I will be the crazy one up front during the Miami show with my Captain Crunch box.
March 9th, 2009 on 8:45 pm
I am crying….!! I never thought I’d see this day. Concerts will never be the same!!! But God knows best…and you guys definitley have my prayers and support!! I will always be a newsboys fan!!

Michael Tait is a beautiful anointed man of God who has the voice of an angel! And, he just happens to be the most beautiful man who walks this earth!
March 9th, 2009 on 8:54 pm
I am absolutely speechless. Peter, you are the face of the newboys. God as blessed you both with a connection to those who come to hear you. You are both passionate about spreading the message. A little different on the delivery, but important all the same.
And I can hardly wait for the new CD!
March 9th, 2009 on 9:16 pm
WOW…just last night Hidalgo was jammin’ with ya Pete! You will be missed from the Newsboys for sure. Michael cannot wait to hear what GOD has in store…Blessings to the Newsboys family!
March 9th, 2009 on 9:39 pm
Dear Peter,
I am a 56 year old pastor who has had an interest in contemporary Christian music for nearly 30 years. I have heard many fine people use their talents for the Lord. I go back to the early days of Petra, Phil Keaggy and others. But I want to let you know that your music and ministry has been a blessing to me especially after all those years at the Creation fest. One of my highlights has been to see you sing in front of 100,000 people with people singing at the top of their lungs songs like “Shine” and boxes of Captain Crunch being passed around during “Breakfast.” My most memorable moment was hearing you share from your heart and leading us in worsahip songs. I can sill remember you singing “It is You” at the Creation fest and during the song, a meteor broken into a number of pieces. It was truly a God moment. Thank you so much for your heart for God. I also want to say welcome to Michael. I have plenty of fine memories of DC Talk and it will be a fresh start for Newsboys with you singing. Actually, I have seen you perform with the Newsboys. I remember you appearing with them on the Rock N’ Roll Hall of Fame concert DVD. May God guide you during these days of transition.
March 9th, 2009 on 9:45 pm
I’ve been listening and being a fan of the Newsboys since 95, Along the years I have always been blessed by your music, I hope this change would be for the better of all of the members of the band, yes, these are shocking news as I remember my first show and having Peter singing only one song during the “Take me to your leader” tour and back then it was weird to me to see him actually signing on stage instead of John James, I guess a lot of us would feel the same way with Michael, I have seen him live only on videos, and his voice and style would be different, but I am still a Newsboys fan, I wish you the best boys and Peter and I am looking forward to see you in Toronto in a few weeks, God bless you
March 9th, 2009 on 9:50 pm
When I first became a Christian 12 years ago, my husband and I trashed all of our secular music and began to search for some great Christian music. Ironically enough, some of the first CD’s we bought were from dc Talk and newsboys! So, both of these bands have been with my family and I for over 12 years. We’ve been to 3 of the newsboys concerts and have all of their CD’s. And we’ve seen Michael Tate live in “Hero.” Awesome!! So, I’m looking forward to more newsboys with the new lead singer, Michael Tate!!
March 9th, 2009 on 9:53 pm
Wow! my first word after receiving the news by a sad cousin…. I love the Newsboys your music had been a blessing to my life… I’ll denifetely miss Peter… but as everybody else said this is from God and he’s in control of our lives. Love you guys and God Bless.
March 9th, 2009 on 9:57 pm
Thank you Lord Jesus for letting us see & hear the Newsboys. Iam so glad we drove to Williamsport,Pa when Lancaster sold out. My three sons loved it! May God continue to BLESS ALL THE NEWSBOYS.
March 9th, 2009 on 9:59 pm
To Pete,
As a brother, and as my friend, I have been deeply blessed by your ministry in touring. I pray the blessings of the Father on you as you continue down the wonderful path He has for you! Thank you for all you have done, and all you will do, your life, your ministry, has been used by God to bless many.
To Michael,
My friend you have big shoes to fill but I know that you will do a superb job. God used you in dc Talk, as well as in your solo carreer. It is exciting to see what the Lord holds for you with Newsboys. I pray that in the days and weeks to come that God shows you enormous grace and abundance as He promises us He will. Thank you for having a tender heart to follow God’s path.
To Duncan, Jody, and Jeff,
I know this is a time of uncertainty for fans, you will help Michael, and Peter as they follow what God is doing in their lives. Give them support, give them your prayers. And I will be praying for each of you as well as this is a big adjustment for all of you as well!
May God bless all of you and your wonderful ministry. Stay strong, we’ve come too far to lose our way!
Blessings from your brother and friend,
David Taylor Jr.

I echo Owan comments above. I’ll add: kids are only young once. Enjoy ‘em Peter.
I pledge to jump and praise just as much as before. See you at Alive and Spirit Song. And I’m bringing friends!
Let’s praise the LORD!

Peter - thanks for the memories and good luck with your future endeavors. You do deserve a well-rested break. We are behind your decision 100%. I cannot wait to hear the songs on the new record.
Michael - welcome to the family. Looking forward to hear what you bring to the newsboys.
Jeff, Duncan, Jody - still supporting you guys 100%
March 9th, 2009 on 10:04 pm
Peter, estoy muy triste porque no puedo creer que ya no vas a ser el vocalista de los Newsboys. Los Newsboys han sido mi banda favorita por 10 anos pero te deseo lo mejor en tu camino con nuestro senor Jesus.
March 9th, 2009 on 10:42 pm
I am looking forward to this new season of the Newsboys ministry. I pray that the Lords hand is upon you and you continue to show Gods love though your amazing music. Welcome Tait!
March 9th, 2009 on 11:07 pm
NEWSBOYS!!! I seriously am your ultimate fan. I have been your fan ever since I was in the 6th grade and now I am 21. Peter!! I will miss you!! You are an amazing song writer and singer!! Have a good time with your family! I agree, you deserve it more than ever!! Love every single of of the newsboys! You are truly an inspiration to me!!!
March 9th, 2009 on 11:31 pm
I understand, after 22 years, live on the road can be tiring. Not many people keep a job that long. I have mixed emotions of Michael Tait replacing Pete. I grew up with Pete and the boys and currently own every album ever produced by them. This is all bittersweet for Newsboys fans. I guess I still wish D.C. Talk were still together and Newsboys remained as they are. Guess we will have to see how this new era plays itself out. Sad - yet encouraged - in PA.
March 9th, 2009 on 11:53 pm
To God be the Glory in all you do. Michael I have loved and admired your work for many years and look forward to continuing the same. Looking forward to seeing the new road show.
Peter getting to meet you in Saint John NB a few years back and getting to thank you in person for your music and ministry was a real treat. The way you ministered to the audience that night not just thru music, but sharing your heart was truly a beautiful thing to see. The song “Shine” made me know I was a long way from home… and your music has helped me grow and nurture a relationship with Our Father like I never had before… My son and I will miss you.. but I hope this is but a new chapter for you… Blessings to you all. And much love my Brothers.

Hi, you were the first Christian Band I was ever introduced to and I fell in love with your message. I didn’t know God before you were in my life. I’ve never been able to see you in concert, but I have always wanted to. I know you’re coming to Duluth, Mn. I hope to see you there. Thank you for inspiring my journey with God.
Good luck with everything you do Peter
Michael will be a great asset to the band.
God Bless
March 10th, 2009 on 1:19 am
I just want to say that I find it very strange all these supposed Christians who listen to the Newsboys but are also outraged that Peter is leaving.
This is obviously a move of God and it will be for the better.
I must still say that I will miss Peter as the frontman as he was the one singing when my cousin introduced me to my first 2 favorite christian bands 12 years ago, dc Talk & Newsboys.
At first I was shocked when I heard about Tait taking over for Peter. I thought, what!?? Michael of dctalk…. newsboys???? You’ve got to be kidding me! But I’ve always considered Michael as my favorite of dc talk and have missed seeing him in the music business. I wondered why he wasn’t continuing on with the Tait band as there hasn’t been an album in over 5 years. Its obvious the Lord was preparing him for this transiition to be the frontman of Newsboys.
Who could have imagined 12 years ago that a dctalker would become the lead of newsboys?
I’m already anxious for the next album (after In the hands of God) with Michael as vocals.
God bless you all in this transition!
And come to Abilene!!
March 10th, 2009 on 2:32 am
Blessings - and congratulations to both men as they embark on this new season. God bless you and your ministry always. Aly
March 10th, 2009 on 6:14 am
Just saw my first concert in Longview on the 6th and was instantly in love w/all of you! I was shocked to find out Peter was leaving………he was awesome! I look forward to seeing and hearing what Michael brings to your group. God Bless you both! And Peter, enjoy your own bed!!!
March 10th, 2009 on 6:48 am
I am a huge Newsboys fan and have been since I was first introduced to them at the Step up tour. At first I was like no way why don’t they change the name now or something, then I thought about it. This is a ministry, not a glory band. So now I am behind this 100%, if my church’s pastor left I would be sad but I wouldn’t be like lets all leave or change the name of the chruch. Congrats Mike, couldn’t have picked a better replacement. Here’s to the next great era of the Newsboys ministry!
March 10th, 2009 on 6:57 am
Whoah!!!! Man, that is awesome…VERY interesting. Love Michael Tait, one of my favorites…wish he had been more successful as solo. Love Newsboys…great testimony for them. Like how Peter’s staying involved integrally. I sense that he may have even stayed a bit longer than he had liked. Glad he’s let God lead him and not stay in a place where God doesn’t want Him. What a Mighty God we serve, who directs our paths, sometimes in ways that seem “odd” to the expectations of the world (including the Christian world). I’m looking forward to this…what God will do.
March 10th, 2009 on 7:03 am
With great sadness I read this,
But with great joy as I read more,
Great to know Pete will still be with the band.
There needs to be some sort of reunion tour in the tubes somewhere!
Phil, Duncan, Jeff, Jody and Pete anyone?
Some LLD perhaps?
=)
March 10th, 2009 on 7:24 am
I knew this day would come and that it would be a hard one! I feel like you are my family and I love you all very much. I’m so thankful that I got to see Peter with the band in Lancaster just over a week ago and mostly that my boys got to see them in what we’ll now remember as a farewell show.
I have confidence that you will all continue to run the race with passion and great music! While it seems like the end of my childhood heroes, I’m thrilled that Michael has agreed to step in and front the band. It won’t keep us from listening and rocking with you everyday! In view of eternity, Erin Smeltz
March 10th, 2009 on 7:54 am
Love and will MISS you Peter. You are my favorite musician. Have fun with your next stage in life and with your family!
Michael you have a great voice and I remember you from dc talk. Good luck and God bless
The rest of the newsboys, hang tough and thanks for all you’ve done! I really appreciate it.
March 10th, 2009 on 8:13 am
I am both saddened and excited for you. Newsboys is what made me start listening to Christian music, and this was only one year ago. I took my Dad to a Newsboys concert and it was an event that bonded us like we had never been before and that bond continues to grow. For that I will always be grateful to you guys.
Peter, I will certainly miss you and your voice. Michael, I am excited for your new opportunity.
Continue the mission.
March 10th, 2009 on 8:15 am
I’m completely saddened today. I never had the chance to see a Newsboys concert, and I won’t now. It would even be close to the same. Huge dcTalk fan, even bigger Newsboys fan, but not merging the 2.
My 8 yr old adores you guys, he knows the words to all your songs. Needless to say, he heard the news on Air1 on his way to school this morning…hopefully, his day will get better.
March 10th, 2009 on 8:23 am
Peter, you’ve been the best frontman ever in so many ways! This is a complete shock, but as my brother in Christ, I support your decision as the Lord leads you, and I’m glad the Newsboys will GO on. Please thank Summer for supporting you all these years as frontman. She is a wonderful example of a Godly wife. I was really hoping to see you at the Packing House concert in Redlands along with Michael.
Michael, you rock! This is going to be very cool. Never the same as with Peter, but a new cool. The Lord is not finished with the Newsboys and for that I am so grateful. It may take a little while to get used to not seeing Peter as frontman, but I thank God they picked you.
I will always support the Newsboys, my favorite band.
March 10th, 2009 on 8:29 am
Dear Peter,
When I heard the News yesterday, I started crying… Out of ALL the people in the Christian “world,” you are THE BEST, my favorite, the one in this whole world who inspires me the MOST. You truly have the Holy Spirit, I love your Australian accent, handsome look and style, I love to hear you sing and give advice in concert. I love you so much–(even much more than Toby Mac!) Isn’t there any way you can stay???? Please?… Newsboys is what it is…because of YOU. YOU make it what it is…it just won’t be the same without you… The thing is…I have always loved Tait too…so please don’t get me wrong…but Tait has his own awesome, incredible music that is a different style and tone… Your the only one who can play Newsboys songs… Tait has his own songs…he should have his own band because yes he IS wonderful, from God, and has the Holy Spirit too…but YOU Peter are “Newsboys”… Please… It is very sad news for me…because there are very FEW people or things in this world that I see as being truly geninue, unique, from God, something I love so much…all the best things always seem to be taken away…
When I recently saw you at your 3rd concert in VA, I’m so grateful to God that He gave me those tickets…I stood up singing over the balony the entire time-and God blessed me by getting to meet you for first time, after the show…I stood in line, and was at the end… I wish I had said something more to you…instead, I was so nervous to meet you that I talked to everyone else but you! I even told Tait that “he was the best!” -he was sitting right next to you. I didn’t lie…I do love Tait too-but I regretted walking away-that I didn’t have the words or courage to tell YOU how much your existence on this earth and singing has meant to me. I guess I am telling you now… I love you Peter-and I understand that you must have good reason for leaving, so I make the choice now to trust God with this huge change. And I pray for you that you get everything you need and want-like being able to sleep in your own bed! You deserve it after all the hard work and many years of service to us. Thank you SO MUCH Peter for EVERYTHING you have given us, Thanks really to God for bringing you here, Thanks for everything you will continue to give in the future. Love, Lori from Gaithersburg, Md
March 10th, 2009 on 8:39 am
Funny!!! Sorry, I spelled some words wrong! “geninue” should be genuine… and I said, “balony” when I meant balcony!! Gosh, I will miss your sense of humor on stage too… -I can’t imagine Tait singing “Breakfast…” it just won’t be the same without you… I love you so much Peter!!! Your wife is a very blessed lady-God gave her everything! Thank you for giving us (the world) so much, for all these years… You truly, really, made a HUGE difference in my life-and many, many lives–you did everything…
Lori

Wow! I have worshiped God through the music of The Newsboys and DC Talk and Tait for over a decade. I am excited that Tait is the one to fill Peter’s spot, but I am grieving at the thought of losing the sound of the Newsboys.
Peter, I truly hope that you continue to record with the Newsboys. I love your rich accent and unique voice. You absolutely must never give up writing. Newsboy lyrics are like none other!
Tait, I look forward to seeing you. I know you will bring the walls down and lift the Lord up.
You all have blessed my family’s life. God bless you!
Kimberly

Pete-
My girlfriend, family, friends, and I have always been blessed by you and the newsboys. I was heart broken to hear the news this morning…However, I know that as long as you keep God as a focal point in ya’lls purpose for performing, you will be fine newsboys. Pete just promise that when ya’ll do come back to houston, to please make a guest appearance. My girlfriend has unfortunatley never seen ya’ll perform. We were going to Houston we are go but couldn’t at the last minute.
Mike- You’ll do good in Jesus name. Just don’t do the “sha-la-la-de-da” thing. That was a DC talk thing Let’s start anew with the newsboys. No offense
–Mario
March 10th, 2009 on 9:01 am
My first reaction to hearing the news, was complete shock! I could not believe what I was hearing! This now explains why Tait was at the Newsboys concert on February 22 at Williamsport,PA. I will miss having Peter as the lead singer, but I do understand why he wants out. I am glad that he will still be involved with the Newsboys song writing. The Newsboys music has always been an inspiration and I always appreciated Peter’s “sermons” at their concerts. I do welcome Michael Tait to the band and have also enjoyed his music over the years with DC Talk and on his own. I wish Peter, Jody, Jeff, Duncan, and Michael God’s blessing as they continue with their music ministry!!
March 10th, 2009 on 9:06 am
Wow!…. Funny thing being a Newsboys fan… you just never know what’s going to happen. In addition to fantastic music, you get a generous dose of REALITY.
In my years of following the band, I’ve seen Jody leave, Brian Olsen come in and then leave. Phil Joel leave (still miss him!), Paul Colman come on and then leave. Jody comes back just in time for Peter to leave and be replaced by Michael T.
My head is spinning!
God MUST be in charge, for the Newsboys are still here and relavent. They matter for the Kingdom.
God Bless you all, ‘boys. Continued ADORATION and DEVOTION.
March 10th, 2009 on 9:15 am
I am so sad and shocked that Peter will not be lead singing at the concerts and traveling much with the band. My husband and boys just heard it announced on K-LOVE that Michael Tait would now be the lead singer. We love Michael Tait, but cannot wrap our minds around the fact that we will not hear Peter’s unique Australia voice!!! Not just that, but we enjoy his many different faces and moves while performing live on stage. We have seen the Newsboys numerous times in the VA area.
Are you sure you won’t reconsider, Peter? We love you! Regardless, we respect your decision and we wish you the very best. Maybe take a little break, and then come back, eh?
March 10th, 2009 on 9:29 am
Peter, we will miss you so much!!! My dad and I have been fans every since I was just a little girl so this is very shocking! But we serve a God who knows best!! I can’t wait to see what Michael will bring to the table:) It’s good to know that someone is filling in who has been with the guys for a long time and knows their style and their fanbase!!
March 10th, 2009 on 9:55 am
Wow. I heard the news on the radio this morning. Peter- Obviously, this has not been an easy choice for you, but it appears to be a solid choice since it is backed by prayer and the desire to be with your family. My husband and I have been listening to your music for nearly 20 years and we have seen you in concert- even before you were the lead singer! The best word to describe your music and concerts is “anointed.” The presence of the Holy Spirit is evident in what you do. I am sure that same Spirit will still inhabit the music of the Newsboys as you go forward with a new man at the front. We love you, Peter, and wish you and your family all the best.
Michael- We know your music and your talent. You have a heart for God and for His music. Many people will expect you to “take the place of Peter,” but what God really wants is for you to simply take your own rightful place as a Newsboy. We’re behind you 100%.
Jody, Jeff & Duncan- We love you and will be praying for you as you make the transition.
God bless the Newsboys!
March 10th, 2009 on 10:09 am
My first introduction to Newsboys was in PA, when I first heard “Take me to your leader”. I was hooked. My husband and I bought every album after that. The lyrics are what do it. And your newest one that talks about “not forgetting whose race we’re in” (paraphrased, I’m sure!), once again reminded me that all of us (famous or just plain Joe) need to be soldiers for God. Our mission is still active.
Michael, I had the chance to meet dc talk years ago when you first started (through Frenchie Obille) but never did. Later I also found out one of your managers, I believe, was none other than Rick Denham, an MK from the same school I went to in Brazil. Small world! I know you will do great. It is like having the best of both worlds (Newsboys and dc talk).
Peter, thanks for your willingness to do God’s work. I am actually more excited that you will be with family now. I know this will be an amazing time for all of you! And we are glad you will continue working with the band. I know God will keep you busy!
God Bless Richly!
March 10th, 2009 on 10:14 am
I knew there would probably be a day coming soon that Pete would be leaving, since it was so evident, the last time I saw you guys in concert, that his heart was consumed with the ministry side and seemed no longer enamored with the entertainment side. Michael Tait is a wonderful choice to take over the frontman role, since his servant’s spirit and heart for the Lord are unquestionable, not to mention a true vocal talent. Pete is not replaceable, but I look forward to the new journey with Michael as the new voice. My prayers and best wishes are with you all!
March 10th, 2009 on 10:29 am
im looking forward to seeing how mike sings with the newsboys and yes i will miss pete
March 10th, 2009 on 10:40 am
Although a heart breaker, completely understandable! Take care of your beautiful wife, Peter. Both of you deserve it. She has been willing to “share” you for a very long time and now it’s her turn! Many blessing to all the members of the band, new and old, and prayers for all of your futures! Thank you for blessing so many lives and allowing God to use you!
March 10th, 2009 on 10:45 am
Dear Michael Tait,
I have never gotten to tell you this before-but I have to say it now: ALL of YOUR songs especially on your first album “Empty” are perfect-truly the BEST. My beloved father passed away of cancer around the same time yours did,… so the song “Unglued” always captures exactly how i feel…and is close to my heart. All of your songs on Empty were perfect-”Spy,” “Talk about Jesus,” “Empty,” etc… God has given you a voice that is so deep and POWERFUL, I have always loved your humble heart, you’re the real deal-you truly follow Jesus. Also, I love your newest work “God can you hear me,” “Glimmer,” “Fallen,” etc… I have been wondering for a long time–WHY??? haven’t you been touring big, with your own band-being just as huge as Newsboys? I mean, on your own, with your own band, with your own style and songs-because that is where YOU BELONG. I don’t think Newsboys songs will do you justice…
Whoever is running the shows or “who” holds all the power and money should have been helping you to become big with your own songs-because your material is already perfect. I’ll say it boldly: your songs are what you should be singing. Please don’t anyone misunderstand, I love Newsboys and Peter Furler’s Aussie singing, wide eyes, JUST AS MUCH as I love yours, but they are two completely different, separate styles that reach me in different ways-I don’t feel they should be joined together… I foresee that it could eventually both snuff out and end Newsboys, as well as take you away from your amazing songs you have been creating-THOSE are the songs YOU should be singing-your own-the world needs to hear those…
In the Management statement they said “it was a no-brainer”–…that baffles me….I’m sorry, but with all due respect, I don’t understand where they are coming from! I pray that all of you have truly taken enough time to pray and think this through-long and hard. I never jump into anything-I’ve learned from experience that Satan is always urging and pushing me to act fast–before I have enough time to think or see the long-term, bigger picture. I never budge for anyone-unless I hear from God, I won’t move-I don’t care what people say-I only care what God says. -As long as I know that you both have taken that time, then I trust your decisions and GOD-because I LOVE HIM way more then anything else, and yes I follow Him too. Discernment is important, and taking time OUT, and away to be able to hear His voice is VITAL, in everything…that’s all I’m saying…
My sense is that Newsboys is ending now, but at same time, I am OK with that, because I KNOW God is in control of ALL things. Obviously God is moving Peter to where he needs to be at this time; it is for a higher reason and new season for all of us. I pray that God will use this to blossom Michael’s career because he deserves to be on stage again, in the spotlight-giving the world all that God has filled him up to now give us. I love you all-including all the band members of Newsboys (sorry to have not included you till now).
Of course I will continue trying to go to your shows now and then-and of course I will love to finally hear Tait sing regularly again-because I have been missing him for a long time. I hope to hear you sing on stage at Creation East Fest this year too! I know God is with you both (and all of you) because look at how FAR each of you has already come thus far! There is a time to cry as things are ending, but it’s always exciting too-because God has NEVER let me down–so I trust this is the way things are suppossed to go. Much new and GOOD is going to come out of this all the way around!
Lori

To the Newsboys (congradulations Michael, that means you!)
it is with mixed feelings that I write this. I want to welcome Michael, because he’s a great guy and I know he will do well. But Peter, no one could ever replace you on stage, and certainly not in our hearts(which are throbbing). I am glad you are doing what you believe to be godly. I wish you all the best of the best in the future.
Love, Rebekah and Family
March 10th, 2009 on 11:32 am
I’m prayerfully hoping Jesus will make a way that I can attend the March 13th concert to give Michael & the guys my full support and Praise the Name of Jesus Christ!!
And I definitely agree with Ann, Michael is HOT!!!
This is so totally going to Rock!
March 10th, 2009 on 11:32 am
May God’s Grace be with you all. My family will miss Peter very much. One of his greatest gifts that he gave his fans in concert was his ability to share his love of the Lord and to share his wisdom and when he spoke people became stronger in their faith in Jesus Christ and even came to know the Lord because of him. His heart and soul for Christ will be truly and deeply missed. We watch Newsboy concert DVD’s over and over to hear Peter glorify the Lord. God Bless you all in this new journey. Peter you are the best.
March 10th, 2009 on 11:35 am
Peter, I have loved the Newsboys and your vocals for years. But, I only just got to see the Newsboys in concert for the first time at your Texarkana concert last week. I just wanted to tell you that your ability to quote scripture and the way you quote scripture spoke to me like no one ever has. You truely are an instrument of God not just in your music, but in your passion for the Word of God. Thank you for everything.
Jennifer
March 10th, 2009 on 11:50 am
As one of your older fans, I must say it is wonderful to share the same music my teenagers listen to. And the Newsboys are, and will continue to be a large part of that. Pointing us ever to the Father with words and music. My husband and I have had the privilege of sharing in your concerts with our kids. Life is full of change, this is just one more. Peter- Our best to you. We’ll miss you on stage, as we miss Phil. Michael- God bless you in this new undertaking. Jody, Jeff and Duncan- Keep rocking for Father. We ALL love it.
March 10th, 2009 on 12:34 pm
I’ve been a huge fan of Newsboys, DC Talk, and Tait for the past 15+ years. I am excited to see this change, though it will take a while to get used to it. I know that God will be in it because he has been involved all the way through. I can’t wait to see what happens next!
March 10th, 2009 on 1:36 pm
I almost cried when I read this! I’m happy with who is replacing Peter, but at the same time no one could ever replace him. Now I’m just wondering which one will be on stage in Washington this spring! Thank you Peter and all of the Newsboys for what you do, your music is a big part of my life and my walk with God. Your music is a blessing to me and the millions who listen to it. And, last but not least, Congratulations to Michael!
Peace be with you,
Anna

The selfish side of me is not happy; but the loving side of me says “Good on ya, Mate!” Good luck and hope that you enjoy your rest. Jodi came back, we can hope for your return…
Just wondering, did you guy happen to consider offering a return to James?
All the best and prayers to Newsboys!
March 10th, 2009 on 2:02 pm
I hope that I get to see Peter perform again. I joined the Breakfast club and I missed my opportunity to go to the meet and greet that year. I always wanted to shake the hands of the Newsboys and tell them how much their music meant to me. I will simply say thank you now. God used you in my life. My best friend let me borrow his Christian music collection and thanks to the message in the songs of the Newsboys and dcTalk my eyes were opened to God’s love and I became a Christian in my senior year of high school. Well 12 years later and the Newsboys are still my favorite band. I always thought that the Newsboys wouldn’t be the Newsboys without Furler singing. But now I am thinking about how Arnel Pineda rocks as the lead singer of Journey. I know that Michael Tait will rock too. But that is not the biggest issue at hand. I am confident that he has a heart after God and that he will minister to people through music. That is what the mission is for the Newsboys. I am sure it will be different, but I am not doubting what God can do. I am very happy that God has been sought in the process of this change. I will miss the charismatic baldy locks of Peter Furler. But, I also know that Michael Tait has been sporting a newsboy cap for some time now. The Newsboys are still my favorite band. And with Peter remaining in the songwriting process I know that they will continue to be. God Bless You guys.

Wow - I have been a youth pastor now for 9 years and have listened and seen you back in high school and even last year. I wrote a quick thing on my blog too.
Thanks for making NewsBoys so fun Peter and I know people will enjoy Michael now too!
Keep it fun with guest appearances!
March 10th, 2009 on 2:48 pm
WOW!!! What a shocker!! I’ve been “with” you guys since ‘94 and never been blown away like this!
Since then twice at Creation NE, and last month in PA.
I’m still with ya and I’m looking forward to hearing M T.
Good luck, Peter. We’ll miss ya! Don’t be a stranger!
Keep those tunes coming!
March 10th, 2009 on 2:48 pm
Love the Newsboys!
Loved Pete, but am willing to give Tait a chance. I am a little leary because I have seen Tait in concert and he does not bring the stage presence that Peter does/did.
As we all know, it is not about the music or the stage presnence however, it is about our Lord and Savior and worshiping Him.
Best of luck to you all, and God Bless!!!
March 10th, 2009 on 2:51 pm
Hey guys the change I think will be good. It will be interesting to hear Michael’s vocals on the songs that we are so use to hearing Peters vocals on. I like both vocal styles. Peter thank you for the music you have made and the energy you brought to the concerts that I have attended. I am looking forword to the show in saginaw and look forword to seeing Michael on a main stage again. Have a blessed day and we will see you soon.

Words cannot express my sorrow at losing you Peter. I’m glad you’ll still be behind the scenes! May God bless you and your family.
Love,
Cristie and the Parish family
March 10th, 2009 on 3:10 pm
Michael, if you can pull of “Breakfast”, then we’re cool, bro.
If not, we’re still cool… just not as cool as we could have been.
Just kidding, I love you.
I think I’ll go now.
March 10th, 2009 on 3:17 pm
I just got over the Paul thing and now I just want to throw up. Well, putting that aside, I want to thank you, Peter, for what you have done in my life. I first saw The Newsboys in 2007 at Great America in California (right after you played at the Pentagon)for 9/11. It was outdoors and there was a point in the show where you were speaking and the spotlight was only on you. I began to imagine if this is how it would look someday when you stand before God, having lived your life not only knowing what your gift was but that you used it to glorify Him all the days of your life. At that moment I realized that’s what I wanted in my life. Flash forward 18 months and my family and I are preparing to visit South Africa next year to work. My husband and I are taking a Perspectives missionary class, I am for some reason (that maybe God only knows) learning arabic and we’re going to see where God is going to put us as he leads our hearts to possibly relocate somewhere in Africa. There is so much more to life than what we live each day…and I realized through God ministering through you that night that in the end, I want to know that I used my gifts to glorify Him. Thank you for being a role model to my daughter and young son, who has a makeshift Newsboys concert going on his room everyday and won’t ever let anybody else play the part of Peter! (I’m still trying to pick his mouth up off the floor), and a huge thank you to Summer who has shared you with us for so many years. And we all get you for eternity anyway, right? See you guys on 3/22 in Modesto. Blessings to all of you!!
March 10th, 2009 on 3:20 pm
All, I could say is “WOW.” I’m shocked. Peter is great - you’re family will love to have you back. You will be greatly missed. Lots so much for the memories and your ministry. God bless you.
To have Micheal Tait as frontman, will be cool to experience. I love DC Talk.
To have great music and memories from both Newsboys and DC Talk, what an experience the concerts will be. Can’t wait.
March 10th, 2009 on 3:23 pm
I am greatly saddened. Peter, you brought me back to the Lord, you taught me to sing and worship, for the first time in my life. You spoke lovingly and kind to me, you brought me into the presence of our God, time and time again.
God’s word, through your voice does not come back void. Trust and Obey, I suppose is what we have to do, I am happy for you to have time, finally at home, but believe me man, You will be greatly missed!
I am so glad to have been on this earth at the same time as you, as you taught me to be a better Christian, through your beautiful songs.
You’re One of A Kind.

..Looking forward to Peter’s statement..
March 10th, 2009 on 3:42 pm
This is truly a God-thing! Bless Peter for making this tough decision. If anyone has given his all for Jesus in this business it is Peter Furler. Have fun and come back soon, Peter. We will miss you! There could not possibly be a better man to fill the vacancy than Michael Tait! The man has a heart for Jesus and one of the best rock voices of all time. For those of us who loved DC Talk (and still go nuts at Toby Mac concerts) this is wonderful news. For the rest of you, just wait and see!!! How the Newsboys continue to make smooth transitions between personnel is further evidence of their calling. God bless the Newsboys. WELCOME TAIT!!!
March 10th, 2009 on 3:50 pm
It is not possible to replace the lead vocals of Peter Furler. However, Michael Tait will ROCK with you guys!!!! Your band, music and lives are a hugh blessing to this world! Thanks, guys! Looking forward to HIS return - with you all…..
March 10th, 2009 on 3:51 pm
Peter you have been THE voice that all others have been held up to for me for years now and NO ONE can replace you. Very sad indeed over this. Michael you have some GIANT shoes to try and fill here and I wish you the best. Your vocal style is so very different from Peter’s I just can’t wrap my head around what this is gonna sound like. Didn’t see it coming for Peter to step down, but respect it and am glad you will still be writing and involved in some ways. Many blessings to you all in everything the Lord has planned for you. Praying us fans can learn to love the new sound as much as we have the old. The thing I’ll really miss at the shows is you preaching it Peter…always brought chills and the feeling that the Holy Spirit had settled over the place when you gave your testimony. So many lives touched by what you’ve allowed God to do in your life…pray it continues.
March 10th, 2009 on 4:02 pm
I have been a fan since ‘94 and while I have no hard feelings towards anybody (who could blame Peter for wanting to sleep in his own bed? I go on vacation for a week and I miss my apartment), I have to state the obvious that it won’t be the same.
I’m sure they realize that; again, that’s an obvious statement.
It’s just weird losing the other of the founding members (John James left around mid/late ’90’s) and replacing him with someone who has a completely different style. Michael Tait is awesome-totally talented and again, I have no ill-feelings towards him. I just personally don’t know about this shift.
Who knows? It could totally pan-out. I must admit that I am unsure at this point. When all the other members have often called Peter “the glue”…you do wonder.
You’ve always been my favorite band and have inspired me/helped through a lot; God has used you greatly. (not just for good music but also for a good message)
I honestly will very much miss Peter Furler and can’t imagine the Newsboys without him…but maybe God has a surprise.
Thanks for everything, Peter. Best to you and your family.
March 10th, 2009 on 4:17 pm
My favorite bands are the newsboys and dc talk so this should be an interesting change!!
March 10th, 2009 on 4:37 pm
Back in the early 90s my favorite band was DC Talk; they we’re it for me. Then, in the summer of 1992 I went to see a concert at Six Flags; it may have been Carmen, but I honestly can’t remember. I just remember whoever I went to see was playing with a band called the Newsboys. I’d never heard of them. But as soon as they started playing, I was hooked. Their sound was amazing…the band was entertaining. And the drummer! Wow…he was playing upside down! I’d never seen anything like it. That was my first introduction to Peter Furler and the Newsboys. I completely fell in love that afternoon and the Newsboys have been my absolute favorite ever since. My children have been brought up on the Newsboys and love them as much as I do. I’ve taken them to their concerts, and we watch them often at home on DVD.
While the faces of the Newsboys have changed over the years, one thing has remained constant…Peter Furler. I cried when I first read he won’t be touring anymore, and got choked up as I broke the news to my children, who are disappointed. It’s hard to imagine a show without Peter and Duncan duking it out on the drums together.
DC Talk took a backseat for me the day I discovered the Newsboys…and now the two have come together! How great it is that Michael Tait will be joining the band. I’m looking forward to seeing Tait as the front man, but Peter, we will miss you up there more than words can say. Thanks for the great music you’ve given us.
March 10th, 2009 on 4:38 pm
I have songs of yours memorized that came out before i was a born. I am so sad and am praying for you. I hope Michael can fit the job he has taken on i have never heard him but think that Peter knows what he is doing and wouldnt give a band over to someone who cant do it. Thank you Peter. Sad i never got to meat you. No one could never sing like you.
March 10th, 2009 on 4:50 pm
Ah man! After all these years, I finally get to go to a concert and Pete probably won’t even be there! There goes one of my dreams. Oh well, it’s not about me anyway, haha. God bless you all, and Pete, enjoy the time you can spend with family! Best of luck Mike, I think you were a great choice, since you were awesome in DC Talk! All of you have such fantastic God-given talents!!! Hopefully I’ll get to see you all in Shippensburg, PA (according to a site, you’ll be singing at the Shippensburg fair…so Lord willing my new hubby and I get to go visit my hometown and see the Newsboys for the first time - one of my lifetime goals! (and perhaps, though doubtful, Pete will make an appearance, or at least I can wish, haha). Thank you all for bringing such great, uplifting music to so many! Your songs have helped lift my spirit and remember that God is in control, especially through the rough adjustments of being married for the first year and being half a country away from everyone I know! Especially “Stay Strong”…So thank you all, and God bless!!!
March 10th, 2009 on 5:02 pm
Peter, I would just like to take a moment to say thank you for sharing your amazing talent with us. I have been a long time Newsboys fan and I have been drawn into the deepest worship and praise of my life while listening to your music. God has used you and your ministry to touch and minister to so many lives. I would love to be standing behind each of you in line in heaven when you receive your crowns. I would cheer and cry with you. I know our Father will continue to use you mightily and you will touch so many more lives by sharing your wealth of talent with the world. God bless you in all that you do. Enjoy your family….Lord knows you deserve it. Is there any chance of a Peter Furler solo cd?
I love you, brother-in-Christ….I love all of you.
Michael, welcome to my favorite band!
Love ya, dude.
March 10th, 2009 on 5:11 pm
In 1992, my first date with my future husband was seeing the newsboys in concert. We have been fans ever since, and so is my 70-year-old Mom! Now comes the end of an era, and so we say with a mixture of heartache and excitement “farewell & thank you” to Peter, “welcome brother” to Michael, “God bless you” to the entire band old and new, and “we are so grateful to be your children” to our great and glorious God. Sending hugs from the Sunshine State, Laura
March 10th, 2009 on 5:14 pm
Peter, thank you so much for everything!!! My first introduction to Christian music was “It Is You” and that led me back to Christ. I am so thankful for you having been a part of my life and my family’s life.
Michael, this is going to be an amazing ride. I’m definitely looking forward to seeing you and the ‘boys in New Hampshire this summer and maybe in Orlando in the fall (our two annual “pilgrimages” :o)
Peace and Love to Peter, Michael, Jody, Jeff, and Dunc, and to everyone just hearing about this exciting News. Change is always a challenge - but with God at the wheel, it’s always a fun ride!!
March 10th, 2009 on 5:20 pm
Peter,
May the Lord bless your life richly as you move forward. I will truly miss you as Newsboys frontman. I am truly blessed to have seen you in concert every year for the last 7 years. Thank you so much for your ministry to me as well as my family. Our love to you and your family.
Love, Lenita, Kelsie, Shelbie and Brandon
March 10th, 2009 on 5:57 pm
I bless this new and fresh start and being a Prophet, I feel led to point out that the devil’s trick in this is to get the body divided into camps named “Peter” and “Michael”
We all as Christians and as fans of the Newsboys should follow the example of Peace set by Jesus and the example set by Peter and Michael as they both walk arm in arm in unity thru this transition.
Let us pray that EVERYONE from top to bottom is blessed and elevated to a new and fresh place in the Kingdom of God as this very monumental shift takes place within this ministry that so many thousands of us all enjoy.

[...] By now, I’m sure you heard that Michael Tait is replacing Peter Furler as lead singer of the Newsboys. You can find the official press release here. [...]

March 10th, 2009 on 7:35 pm
I will miss Peter. But what a great choice in Michael Tait. The Lord will guide the Newsboys and their fans through this new chapter. I will definitely not stop going to concerts.
Love ya guys.
God Bless.
March 10th, 2009 on 7:40 pm
The Newsboys and dc talk have greatly influenced my life. Christ changed it, but it’s through their music that I came to know Him.
I’m really going to miss Peter with the Newsboys, he gave the band its unique sound and feel - and I’m going to miss having the hope that dc talk might one day get together, but having Michael in with the best act in Christian rock to date is something that I’m really looking forward to.
God Bless you all.
March 10th, 2009 on 8:35 pm
I pretty sure there is no more loyal Newsboys fan than I. I love you guys and your ministry and I’ve often thought of your catalog as the soundtrack of my faith walk. God has used your simple, true lyrics to inspire my heart so many times over. I am so sad today, because I look up to you, Peter! And I wish so much to see you again in your shows… but I know that God has a plan for us all and that you will be blessed to spend time at home with your family and friends.
As for Michael Tait- You couldn’t have picked a more suitable Newsboy. A perfect choice.
I am so very sad today, but loyal as ever. I cannot really describe what the Holy Spirit has done through your ministry in my life, even though I’d like to, but sometimes there aren’t words.
March 10th, 2009 on 8:48 pm
Absolutely surprising! I called Pulse FM this am and the DJ told me the news and my first thought was, “Is it April 1st?” I totally thought he was having some fun with me. (He couldn’t see my blonde hair…) So, of course, I had to come and check it out and you’re right Mike, the NB fans totally ARE the BEST fans on the planet! WooHoo!!!!!
Denise
March 10th, 2009 on 8:49 pm
Peter, thanks for all your hard work. It’s been a great ride but we know it’s not over. Tait, welcome to the adventure. I know you will help the Newsboys continue the journey that God as directed them on. God is in control.
March 10th, 2009 on 8:54 pm
I will miss you, Pete! Can’t wait to hear the new sound Mike will bring to the band. The Lord knew what he was doing!
Praying for ya!
March 10th, 2009 on 9:05 pm
Always a Tait fan (DCT and abroad). Newsboys are amazing too. Steve Taylor helped Peter Craft who the Newsboys were and their sound and now Peter can continue to craft that sound with the most amazing vocalist at the helm! Michael Tait! I’ve seen the newsboys nearly a half dozen times! I saw them twice with Jon James on vocals and have enjoyed the various artists involvement with the band. Good for Peter to take a break and we’re really excited about Michael joining the band. I feel like I have a reason to see Newsboys live again!
March 10th, 2009 on 9:05 pm
Peter…words can’t convey how much everyone is going to miss you after these past incredible years. We all love you and wish you the best and all the happiness in the world…thanks for everything! As for Michael…dude you are amazing! I absolutely love DC Talk and Tait and I am looking forward to this new direction. I know youre gonna do an incredible job. God bless both of you and the Newsboys!
March 10th, 2009 on 9:15 pm
Peter, Duncan, Jeff, and Jody, thank you for all the great memories from the past and for the future ones as well. I have a video of Michael singing with the Newsboys live at the rock and roll hall of fame. You will fill our hearts just as Peter has.
God works in great ways. He is the way. God Bless
March 10th, 2009 on 9:20 pm
So sad to see Peter not performing anymore, yet I understand. In addition to performing burnout, it seems awkward for a married man in his mid 40s to be performing in front of a bunch of screaming teenie boppers, so it’s probably time to not “step up to the microphone” anymore. I can’t even think of Newsboys without Peter, he is the heart of the group, like the quarterback. His stage presence bought something special to their performance. I’d tend to think that the group without Peter will go down under (no pun intended), but I think the lack of good quality Christian bands out there anymore will make it possible for Newsboys to endure. Regardless, I wish them the best.
March 10th, 2009 on 9:40 pm
Ok a bit sad as we are to hoping to see the Newsboys Live with Peter for the first time in Cali in May. Have SO enjoyed you Peter and your ministry and wish you the best and many blessings in your new adventure and time to rest as God calls us to! Look forward to ‘meeting’ Michael Tait singing as a Newsboy this May!
Blessings to all of you in this new adventure
March 10th, 2009 on 9:56 pm
I am sooo very sad right now. My family and I will truly miss you Peter.
March 10th, 2009 on 10:13 pm
Wow, just this morning I was listening to my “Read All About It” CD. John James was lead vocalist, a Peter was the long-haired drummer. What a journey it has been!!!
It is a sad moment to see the last of the original band step down, but I know that God has seen this group throughnumerous changes, and I’m sure that with Peter behind the scenes, Michael out front, and God in control of it all - the result will be spectacular.
God Bless you guys!!!
March 10th, 2009 on 10:57 pm
Thank you Peter, for all the great music over the years. I remember first hearing of the newsboys when I was in college. I’m closer to your age now! Your music has touched my life in so many ways. God has truly blessed you with a wonderful gift. Thank you for using your talents to serve Him. I attended the Reach Event in Tucson,AZ a few months ago. I was so touched and personally challenged by the number of people who went forward after the gospel presentation. Thank you for gifting us with that free opportunity for people to hear the good news that you so passionately shared. May you enjoy a well-deserved break. I’m sure that Summer will be glad to have you home more as well.
March 11th, 2009 on 1:00 am
Hi,
PETER WE WILL REALLY MISS U!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
WE WANTED THE NEWSBOYS TO PERFORM IN INDIA.AS THERE ARE MANY YOUNG PEOPLE WHO ARE DIE HARD FANS OF NEWSBOYS.
March 11th, 2009 on 3:51 am
Wow! This is surprising me. It’s too bad, Peter is leaving, but I think Tait is a wonderful choice. His style is a bit different, but I think it comes close enough. I’ll see forward to the songs of Newsboys with Tait. I’m a Tait fan, also a Newsboys fan (and of course a DC fan)…
goodbye Peter
Welcome Tait
My only question is…what has become of loveology? Why wasn’t it released in 2007….?
March 11th, 2009 on 8:02 am
I’ve pretty much been a newsboy fan all of my life, I’ve been a fan for like 11 years and I’m only 16. I’m really happy for Mike and everything, and I’m glad Peter will get to spend more time with his family and everything, but what’s gonna happen to Micheal Tait’s band “Tait”? Anyway, I think this will be a very interesting change and can’t wait to see how it works out.
All my love, prayers, and support,
Becca Musser
March 11th, 2009 on 8:05 am
I forgot to say that I am especially happy that Jody is back!!!
March 11th, 2009 on 9:26 am
Man I have never got to see you guys in concert yet man but i’ll get over it god bless
March 11th, 2009 on 9:28 am
Wow! The Newsboys have given me such an amazing insight into God and who He is. Even in my darkest hours, your music was able to lift my soul. “Stay Strong” has become my personal anthem. While I welcome Michael to the group, and will still remain a loyal fan, I feel as if I’m loosing a part of my family. I repsect Peter’s decision and know that the Lord has a plan for his life and everyone else’s. It’s just in this moment a tough pill to swallow. Words cannot even begin to explain the work the Holy Spirit has done on my heart thanks to you and your ministry. You have pulled me through unthinkable paths and discouragements. Thank you! Thank you for growing in your relationships with God and bringing us along to better understanding as well. What a truely selfless thing to do.
Thank you. You will be missed!! Here’s to the next chapter of our lives.
God Bless!
March 11th, 2009 on 9:30 am
I am still reeling from the news that the “face” of the coolest band on earth will be leaving. First it was Phil, then Jody (who thankfully is back), and now Petey. While I certainly understand the grueling toll road work has on a person & their family, I am still disappointed that a member of my favorite American-Aussie Christian band is stepping down from public appearances. I was just as upset when I heard Jody & Phil had left, even though I completely understood. We none know where God will take us next, but like the current single declares, we are all “in the hands of God.”
Petey, my bald friend, you have every prayer that this man can pray and my heart of love as a brother. I know that Jody, Dunnie, and Jeff (along with Michael now) will do us all proud in carrying on the Newsie traditions! I have every confidence in Christ that it will only grow, expand and become incredibly better as the result of everyone’s sacrifice.
Hey, Mike, you’re one blessed dude to be invited into that noble clique. I loved you in DC Talk and enjoy your work with Tait. I hope and pray that you will continue to infuse that same spirit into this new project and leave us amazed at God’s grace.
Yours in Christ
March 11th, 2009 on 10:05 am
We have seen the Newsboys in concert a couple times and you guys are our absolute favorite!!! We love your music. I understand Peter’s decision, but I am so bummed because we have tickets to the concert in Modesto, CA this month and it sounds like Peter may not be singing at that one. I’m sure Michael Tait will be great, but we had our hearts set on Peter. Maybe there’s a possibility he’ll be singing that night? We’ll keep hoping. We wish you all the best in this transition.

Well…its gonna be alright…just as you sing. I saw all of you (Michael included) a few weeks ago in Woodbridge, Virginia and it was as amazing as every other time i’ve seen you over the years. We went as a youth group and I was so excited to see you for the 3rd time in 9 months! when you sang in the hands of God…i knew that if i put everything i have in the hands of God that everything would be ok. and i am truly blessed to be one of the last to hear Mr. Peter Furler as the lead singer of the Newsboys! God is going to do wonderful things with Michael and the Newsboys. He will use Michael as He used all of you and Peter, you have left a footprint so big and so meaningful and so unforgettable that everyone who you have performed for will never be the same. your ministry is one of the greatest out there! Peter you truly will be missed! but God has amazing things in store for you and the Newsboys. as for Michael…i gotta say…you are a perfect fit and i think you will carry on the legacy with your head held high to the sky! i cant wait to see you up there again! in woodbridge i had the pleasure of hearing you sing Stay Strong and i thought. wow that was pretty good! and now look where you are! I have a slight suggestion for you by the way. i think you need to tour with tobymac and get kevin max to come along for the ride. a little dc talk get together! well this is a long post. thanx for everything Peter! all Newsboys fans will miss you and all look forward to what comes next in the Newsboys legacy! God Bless! The baton has been passed!
March 11th, 2009 on 11:38 am
I also want to add that… Ministry is a giant chess game that God is playing and we are the pieces. any minister knows what i mean…God moves us where he wants when he wants so he can have the advantage so to speak. he is thinking many steps ahead of Satan the evil one and he moves his pieces to where they need to be to make the biggest impact. Peter was with the Newsboys for a long time, and now God has decided Peter is needed elsewhere to make a difference…God knows what he is doing! He is in control.
March 11th, 2009 on 11:42 am
WOW!!! What a shock! Heard the news on K-Love (Odessa-Midland). It will not be the same. Peter, enjoy your family time. It has been a long haul. We will greatly miss you. Michael, welcome. It will take some getting used to, for sure. LOL!! God is good. His plans are perfect and His promise is to prosper you. I have been to 3 Newsboys concerts: two at Kingdom Bound and one at Rock The Desert. (We moved from NY to TX last year) Praying for all ya’ll!!
March 11th, 2009 on 11:55 am
Both Newsboys and DC Talk have been great servants of God’s army. Both bands have kept me kicking in God.
It is good that Tait is around…but Peter should have stayed too…but I understand…
March 11th, 2009 on 12:17 pm
Well I’m sad that Peter is leaving the Newsboys. I was fortunate to see him perform in Lancaster, PA. I hope Michael is a good addition to the band.
March 11th, 2009 on 12:59 pm
WOW, I am so grateful to have seen you guys on March 1st. I did not know that would be the last time I’d see Peter perform live! I am still in shock. Although Peter can never be replaced, Mike will make a wonderful new addition and start a new era of Newsboys! May we continue pray for all the Newsboys and their crew and families.
March 11th, 2009 on 1:14 pm
This will a new bigining i have seen both Tait and Newsboys in concert and they both have a rela good energy and Tait will be good, The band will be the same Pete and Tait have about the same energy and he will a good addidition.
March 11th, 2009 on 1:31 pm
Dear Newsboys-
How can I put into words the impact you have had on me and my family. I can not. However, for the purposes of this note, suffice it to say that God has worked miraculously through your ministry to bring me closer and closer to the Lord Jesus. I have personally come through some very dark times and I owe much of that recovery to the way the Holy Spirit has spoken to me through your music.
To Pete, Jody, Duncan, Jeff, Phil, Mike, and Paul. I love you all. May God pour out his blessing upon all of your ministries. You have always been good news to this boy!
With the gratitude of a healed heart-
John Rannow, Kennewick Washington

VIRGINIA LOVES YOU!

I know the newsboys are human and imperfect as the rest of us, but at the same time God’s used them and their music to challenge and encourage me, and push me back into His word. I’m glad for Peter’s sake that he will have more time with family, but personally heartbroken to not see him again! Jody, it’s an answer to many prayers that your daughter is well enough for your to be back! Michael Tait, welcome to newsboys! Regardless of what happens next, the One we worship and follow is the only unchanging One and the reason that we sing…so let’s see what great things God has in store. =D
March 11th, 2009 on 4:59 pm
Wow. Sorry to hear that you are leaving the tours. Glad to hear you will still be involved though. From listening to you for years I am sure this is prayerfully considered. The Lord has always used the “Newsboys” to share the gospel, and will continue I’m sure. Praise the Lord for you Pete. God Bless, until we meet in Heaven.

Peter, ♥
Since the first time I saw you when i was 9 years old i knew there was something special about the newsboys. At Creation fest east throwing captain crunch to the breakfast song was the highlight of my week!!! when you came to the weindberg center while I 13 a few monthes ago in frederick maryland it really hit it off for me. I heard what you said and it really inspired me to want to have a closer realtionship with God. I will really miss the austrailian accent ive come to know and love and the way you draw people to God in worship. We will truly miss you!! Best of wishes and God bless!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! MARYLAND LUVS YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ♥ Amber (13 years old)

WHAT? Now DC Talk will never get back together… Mike! What are you doing!
March 11th, 2009 on 5:38 pm
Tait is an amazing performer & writer. He knows how to ROCK!!!!! Newsboys will be better than ever now!!!!!
March 11th, 2009 on 6:28 pm
Thanks for the memories Peter. I’ve been able to see you in concert 5 times. I was even albe to get my car license plate signed twice NBSHINE. I’ve been albe to meet the Newboys twice and Peter once. Peter was able to sign all of my CD’s after the concert at UD Davis in 2003. Shine and Million Pieces are my most favorite songs. Those two songs have gotten me through alot of tough situations. I turn to christian music when I needs to destress and I’m glad that the music of the Newsboys is there to help.
Peter, the song “He Reigns” will not be the same in concert. You are the only one that knows how to give the crazy eyes when you sing that song. I’m sure Michale will be a great front man.
I hope you will still be on tour when you come to Modesto CA, on 3/22 so we can see you for a final time. Just look for my licence plate NBSHINE when you play Shine.
Once again thanks for the memories
Sherry, Sacramento CA.

Wow. this can’t be true. I know this is a good move for God’s Kingdom. And to God be the glory. But here is the thing. I am a late bloomer. I just got into Newsboys. I have been listerning to you all everyday since front row live. I have been waiting for your concert to come. Now I am hit with this. I really wanted to see Peter perform live. I am 56 yrs and have been excited because I was coming to a nb concert. Okay will Peter be at the six flags over Ga. concert? Anyway 22 years of road is a lot. You all have to do what you have been singing about “stay Strong”
March 11th, 2009 on 8:45 pm
Man, I am floored. I have seen a lot of concerts both christian & rock and know NO ONE can replace Peter Furler. There are only two other christian lead men that are even in the ball park, Mac Powell of 3rd day & Chris Tomlin. You guys had that magic that only few bands ever have. I don’t know the reason yet for your departure Pete so I will be praying for you and hope it isn’t something bad. In my opinion, the newsboys would be better off if you reduced the number of concerts you have a year so that each of you would have more time to spend with your family. Lets get real the NEWSBOYS without PETER FURLER are just not the NEWSBOYS.
March 11th, 2009 on 10:09 pm
Wait a minute! When did Jody Davis come back? Last I knew, there was an Australian guy in his spot. I for one, have missed you, Jody. And now, a really handsome black guy is taking Peter’s place? I need to sit down, I’m feeling dizzy!! JK, I love, love, love Michael and if someone had to “replace” Pete, Michael could do it! We’ll miss you so, Peter!! Enjoy some R&R (and your wife!).
March 11th, 2009 on 11:19 pm
I’m kind of conflicted. On one hand, I’ve loved the Newsboys going all the way back to “Down Under the Big Top” (oh yes, I remember it!), and it just won’t be the same without Peter. On the other hand, I know that Michael has just the same fire and passion for Christ that Peter and the ‘Boys have, and the band made a great decision inviting Michael to join the group.
Either way, may God continue to bless the ‘Boys, no matter who’s singing.
March 11th, 2009 on 11:30 pm
I first saw you in concert summer of 1999…man what a cool concert…better than ANY worldy concert! The Holy Spirit moved through the building touching our hearts. I was pregnent with my third child that summer and he was happily bouncing in my womb as I danced tirelessly all night. Now, I am taking my son, now 9, to enjoy his first concert…a little irony!
I have also loved DC talk and I am excited to see what the Lord has in store for us with Tait on the mic. I have to admit that I’m sad to see Peter go. He has an incredible voice and talent that God gave him. The same can be said for Tait! Blessings to Peter, Tait and everyone as they transition and grow as a group. Your faithful fan, Christy
March 11th, 2009 on 11:41 pm
It’s analogous to Bono leaving U2 — no one can ever replace Peter Furler! Actually, I believe newsboys has a big global worldview (just like U2) and I hope that doesn’t change. Nothing personal against Michael Tait, and I loved his work with dcTalk (I met them several times when they first started in the 1989-1992 timeframe opening up for DeGarmo & Key), but newsboys is in another league. I echo John Ellis’ comments above about significantly cutting down the number of concerts per year; thus, allowing more time for Peter to focus on writing (with Steve Taylor), recording and being at home (and going back to Australia if he wants). Guitarist Paul Colman leaving and bringing back Jody Davis was one thing; but Peter Furler leaving is totally different (like the heart and soul being ripped out of newsboys). God Bless You Peter!
March 12th, 2009 on 1:32 am
Angry and disappointed and terrified for the future, but instead of feeling upset, I’d rather just feel hopeful and smile and say Seeya Peter and Welcome Tait.
Tait…Taiter Tot :p
March 12th, 2009 on 4:58 am
i had a fisrt reaction of sadness/frustration/i-hope-that-hes-ok/how-could-they-do-this-before-they-hit-seattle/if-i-wanted-to-here-tait-id-play-dctalk/who-knows-what-else all jumbled together but then i smacked my self on the head and remeberd its not just about me and that if this was happing it was for a good reason and that peter you have been on the road a few years longer than i have been alive so i more than understand the whole needin a break thing! im still not so sure about hering tait take on my fav nb songs but i still support all you guys now and in the future..good luck and god bless
p.s. im totally lovin the taiter tot idea kly
March 12th, 2009 on 7:45 am
This is a match made in heaven….I love both Michael Tait and the Newsboys. What an incredible match!!!
March 12th, 2009 on 10:31 am
In seeing the sudden change (and such a huge one) in the lineup, I am assuming something major has happened that can not even allow Peter to finish the tour. It is highly unusual that such a change should happen after a tour has begun. A final tour with Peter would have been nice. Hopefully this is not a permanent change. There have been 5 Newsboys before and adding Michael Tait would have been one thing but this is quite another. I will keep you in my prayers, Peter. It would be great to have had Phil (or Paul) take Peter’s position. This is like there is a whole new band…..sad. Love you, Peter. You and your lyrics have been with me through many changes in my life. Thank you
March 12th, 2009 on 10:57 am
Oh, hey, what about this? Can we get John James back, the other foudning band member besides Peter? He originally was the lead singer! We need that Aussie accent and humor.
March 12th, 2009 on 10:58 am
God is good! I saw you for the first time on this latest tour in Scranton. God’s timing in getting me there was perfect. The venue was very close and personal, which gave an opportunity to remind me that we are all just people doing a work for him in some way. Peter, I miss you already. A big thank you to you and the Newsboys for your sold out commitment to Jesus! God’s best to you, Michael, and anyone this change affects! Lots of love too!
March 12th, 2009 on 11:55 am
We will miss your Aussie accent, your Aussie wit, your Aussie humor, and your heart and soul pouring out on stage Pete!! I pray that you will be able to make frequent tour appearances!!
Okay Duncan, we’re counting on you to keep the Aussiness alive!!! Gotta have some talking opportunities on tour mate!!
Duncan, Jeff, and Jody, so excited that you are staying strong……the best is yet to come. Welcome back Jody!!!
Tait, welcome!! I truly don’t know what to expect on tour, but I know you will rock!
March 12th, 2009 on 12:03 pm
WOW! I could not believe it when I heard it and had to check it out for myself. I have to say I am very sad to hear it, but trust that you all are seeking God and His will. I have loved listening to the Newsboys for many years, and will continue to. Peter, you will be greatly missed, just as Phil Joel was and still is. Newsboys will not be the same. I agree with the others, it is like a different band without Peter. Im glad to hear though that he will still be around and involved in the band. God’s blessings to you all as you start on this new chapter and may you continually seek Him. Thank you for all the encouragement through your music and concerts over the years and for maintaining a faithful testimony for Christ. GOD BLESS YOU NEWSBOYS and never stop doing it all for HIM!!
March 12th, 2009 on 12:29 pm
oh, and I also have to say I was also very surprised because I didn’t realize that Paul Colman was gone and Jody was back. You will be very much missed as well Paul!! God bless all of you!!
March 12th, 2009 on 12:54 pm
Wow. I really didn’t know what to say once I heard the news. I am torn. Peter- you are the face of Newsboys and I will miss you greatly!!!! Tait- loved you in DC Talk and loved your solo stuff. Newsboys rock and so does Tait…..still sad though.
March 12th, 2009 on 1:28 pm
I’ve been a Newsboys fan for…uh..wow..a long time =D I’m gonna miss ya Pete.
Michael, welcome to the show! Looking forward to the new direction of the band. Prayin’ for ya guys!
March 12th, 2009 on 4:53 pm
To Newsboys,
Well everything has a season. Your music has been an encouragement to me. I love you music and one day i hope to fly to the states to see you (I live in Australia). I know the best is still yet to come. I pray that you are all doing well, and stay strong.
Love From Rachel Margery
March 12th, 2009 on 5:24 pm
I’m really excited to see what Michael Tait can do with the Newsboys. Should be some interesting music coming out of this!
March 12th, 2009 on 6:11 pm
Michael Tait -> you have the best voice ever. Couple your voice with the quirky lyrics of the newsboys, and man, can’t wait to see you rock it! Come to Canada!
March 12th, 2009 on 6:55 pm
I am fairly new as a Christian music fan and have come to love it. Peter, you will be missed on stage, but I know God has lead you and Michael and the rest of the band in the right direction. I feel very fortunate, especially now, that the Newsboys show in Columbus, Ohio in Nov. of o7 was my first Christian concert and it was awesome. Peter, you have quite a presence on stage. And the duel drum thing was one of the best highlights of any concert I’ve ever been to. Thank you Peter for the inspiration. God bless you and your family. I will be looking forward to seeing the Newsboys in concert again, as I’m sure Michael will also be a great front man. You guys are and always will be a great band and a great inspiration to your fans. Thanks for the effort and hard work I’m sure it takes for a band that is on the road as much as you guys are. HE Reigns.
March 12th, 2009 on 7:20 pm
Micheal Tait is sweet! I’m sure this will really change the band, but i think it will be awesome! GO NEWSBOYS!!! GO TAIT!!! Like Lisa said, u will rock!!!
March 12th, 2009 on 7:23 pm
Oh! I forgot to say, never forget the essential thing guys! God loves YOU!!!
John 3:16
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only son so that whoever might believe would not perish but have eternal life.
March 12th, 2009 on 9:06 pm
Man, I’m still floored, but I want to personaly thank all of the Newsboys. The uplifting ministry you have givin to me through the years has help to encourage me more than you will ever know. Peter Furler you are the best lead man in ALL of the music industry. The fact that you are A man of God is even more impressive. Even though I have never met you face to face, I feel you are A close brother to me in Christ. The thought of Peter Furler not performing Shine, Joy, Breakfast, He Reigns, & all the other great songs is very, very, very sad. I know I don’t know all that is involved, but I pleed with you guys to reconsider the desision you are making. I really believe that cutting down on the performances you make is the way to go, we all get older & eventually have to slow down, but getting a new lead man just doesn’t seem right. I am praying for all of guys as I know this must be a tough desision. God bless all of you.
March 12th, 2009 on 9:22 pm
Peter - You will be deeply missed! Your the energy behind “The Boys”. I wish you the best and hope that you get the much needed time off to spend with your family. I know Duncan, Jody, Jeff and Michael will work hard to see that the Newboys continue to bring the word of God to thousands of fans and thousands of fans to know God. Maybe the band needs to take some time off to spend with their families. All the sudden changes can be devasting to an iconic group. I hope to one day see Peter back as lead. I will continue to support the group but it won’t be the same. May God continue to give you wisdom and courage.
Blessings
March 13th, 2009 on 12:58 am
I have always been a fan of DC Talk and of Newsboys so it will be great to see these two merge. I hope it really works out great and i cant wait to see you guys live!
March 13th, 2009 on 1:56 am
There are already so many comments, but man oh man, I just gotta get this off my chest.
Peter, this is truly bitter-sweet news. I have been a fan for so long. I remember listening to “Shine” in my religion teacher’s office in high school. I saw you for the first time in concert just last year at Spirit West Coast-Monterey and was soo looking forward to seeing you again in a couple of weeks. I’m glad that you are getting this well-deserved break w/your family, but man, couldn’t you have waited just a couple more weeks?? I hope that you still are dong G-d’s work no matter where this break from touring takes you and wish you and your family the best.
Mr. Tait….I’ll be seeing you in Redlands on March 20.
March 13th, 2009 on 2:53 am
Hello guys! I am truly surprised at this news! And a bit sad but I am excited too!
Peter, you were there at the beginning when I first discovered the Newsboys many many years ago when I was a little girl. And now you will be leaving. You ARE the face of the Newsboys. You have been there all these years while others have come and gone, and come back again. You have been *the* voice of the band for many years now. It will truly be sad to see you go and concerts will no longer be the same, ever, without you. You will truly be missed. We love you! But I do wish you the best of luck and may God bless you in whatever you choose to do now with all the extra time you’ll have on your hands. =) But you guys couldn’t have chosen a better person to take your place!
Michael, I remember meeting you in 2007, seeing you in concert and your voice is just amazing live! For years, about 18 years, I have been a fan of both DC Talk and Newsboys and now, you will be joining the Newsboys. This is amazing! I never thought this would happen and I honestly can’t wait to see what God has in store for you guys, the new Newsboys, now. I can’t wait for a CD. You are going to do just wonderful! God bless you all! I love you guys!
~Loida
March 13th, 2009 on 5:45 am
Peter, I am gonna miss you badly. My wife is gonna cry when I tell her, because Newsboys is her favorite band and we’ve been listening since before we got married…we’re heartbroke, but you know what? 22 years is such a long time, and you know it far better than we do! Take a well-deserved rest and I thank Jesus for your new direction. Godspeed, friend.
March 13th, 2009 on 8:59 am
Peter,
You will be missed but I know you are following God’s call on your life which is more important than anything else. Congrats Michael!!!

March 13th, 2009 on 9:25 am
This is actually good news. I would much rather have the Newsboys fronted by Michael then have no Newsboys at all. I can not begin to imagine the sacrafices the boys have made for our enjoyment. The life style sure sounds great but I honestly don’t know how they kept it up for so long. God Bless the Newsboys and I look forward to seeing them in the future!
March 13th, 2009 on 10:47 am
I’m so sad you’re leaving Peter. I remember listening to the Newsboys for the first time and falling in love with Christian music. I’ll continue to love it but it won’t be the same without you. I still support you guys and still love what you stand for. In the meantime God bless and I’ll be rockin’ with the rest of you guys at the Big Ticket Festival his summer! =)
March 13th, 2009 on 12:12 pm
Mate, u guys are the people that made Christian music cool. I’ve heard so many times people write you off, like when John left etc…but just like a cat, u lot won’t lay down and die, instead u keep proving everyone wrong by coming out with more God centered, uplifting, relevant music that makes a big impact around the world. I’m excited for you, can’t wait to see the new live set with Michael, he was the coolest guy in DC Talk and with Peter putting his energy into producing the whole thing can only get better. On ya fellas!
March 13th, 2009 on 12:58 pm
Peter, I thank you for giving yourself all these years to God’s plan and mission for your life. It saddens me to hear of your leaving the Tour of the Newsboys, but I am overjoyed that you will remain a key part in the Lord’s work with this group. It has always brought me joy to worship with you guys in concert, and I was able to do so because each of you made it a matter of prayer, worship, and invitation. No band has ever led worship like you guys, and I expect all of us in the family of God to worship one day in heaven as the Lord has led you to lead us: completely focused and centered around the joys and overwhelming adoration to God. I love you as a brother, Peter, and will continue to pray for you. It is good for a man to be with his family, and I know this was a difficult yet peaceful decision, because I have no doubt that you had the Lord’s direction. God bless you, and thank you again.
March 13th, 2009 on 1:19 pm
So Sad! Peter, your music changed my life. I listen to a variety of music, but your music and lyrics go straight to the heart so God can soften it, open it and give it new life. That happened to me and it happens over and over again every time I listen to you. When I am stressed, I listen. When I am traveling, I listen. When I am overwhelmed by life, I listen. When I am in pain, I listen. when I am sad, I listen.
God restores me as he uses your music as my therapy.
To say thank you just doesn’t seem sufficient for all the work, sleep deprivation, tour schedules, time away from family as you have served the Lord with your life.
Peter, as you continue to write new music, please know that we are listening with our hearts and our hearts are being transformed.
March 13th, 2009 on 1:32 pm
I myself am an “older-but-still-way-cool” newsboys fan. Thank you for allowing our family to share together the sound that is only “Peter”. Our daughter fell in love with the newsboys at age 6 and at 11 you still rock! Meeting you and the band at Atlanta Fest in 2007 was the highlight of her life. We enjoyed a mightly visit of the Holy Spirit that night. I know this decision was bathed with much prayer and as a parent I applaud you in choosing family over the road. Remember Romans 8:28 my friend; and SHINE!
Michael, welcome! We’ve loved you as a part of DC Talk but know you have big shoes to fill. My daughter’s favorite song is SOMETHING BEAUTIFUL naturally because that’s what she is. We look forward to seeing you in concert along with our other favorite men! The LORD bless you my friend…enjoy the ride!
Duncan, Jeff & Jody; carry on my good men. You make it all worth while…HIS love is better than life!
March 13th, 2009 on 2:24 pm
I knew this day would come eventually. But never would I have dreamed that Michael Tait would be a Newsboy. I did enjoy him singing along with them on the Rock&Roll Hall of Fame DVD though. So I wish you the best, Mike in your new transition! I’ve been waiting for “Loveology” or something new to come out for a while now!
Peter, thanks for being so great and for being an example for so many people in this world. I’m so glad you’ll still be around the band doing music and behind the scenes stuff. I’d still like to hear you on the future records. God Bless you all, and I’ll be waiting to see you guys again soon!!
March 13th, 2009 on 2:57 pm
Newsboys, you are really great !!! There are very few bands so good as you are. Peter wu e hope success to you. May God bless you all. Know that Brazil love you and your songs. We hope to see you here, specially in São Paulo, we will love it.
March 13th, 2009 on 4:55 pm
Peter,
you got me back to Jesus. Thank you now I will always knew they way that you talk about.
March 13th, 2009 on 7:24 pm
I didn’t believe it at first. I’m going to miss you Peter. I have experienced the best worship ever at your concerts. Last friday’s concert was the best! Michael has huge shoes to fill. But I love you too Mike! Can’t wait to see you in action.
March 13th, 2009 on 8:04 pm
I’m going to miss you so much, Peter. Your blatant passion for the Lord is evident in every word you sing; I will miss your voice and your accent. Will you still sing in the studio? And will you sing for the concert in Redlands, CA on the 20th? I already bought tickets…
I can understand your motivation though, and was recently wondering when you would make this decision. Love and prayers to you and your family.
March 13th, 2009 on 8:36 pm
Aw man, hearing the news of Peter’s departure just tore me up inside. Peter was the lead singer of the best band ever! Both of my kids and I are huge fans, and listening to anyone else on stage (other than Peter) is definitely going to take time to get used to.
There are so many comments here from so many fans, but count my family in among those blessed by the Newsboys music and ministry.
Thanks, Peter, for all that you’ve done for us.
God is good!
March 13th, 2009 on 11:37 pm
I have grown up listening to this band and I love them so much! Every time a member leaves I cry because it really is like a family member in moving away. This band has inspired me in so many ways.
I turned away from God for about three years and recently got saved again about four months ago. I pulled out all my Newsboys cds (which is A Lot since I have them all lol) and listened to them when I gave my life back to God. They were about the only Christian music I still had after my separation from God. Even when I wasn’t saved, I would buy their cds because I would remember the love that I had for them when I was saved. They always stayed my fav band. Their music and anointing really helped me get back into the Christian life style and really encouraged me to go forward. Now I am about to go to college to become a youth pastor. It’s going to be hard but their music gives me hope. Helps me hang on and go forward.
To me Peter has always been a Preacher more than anything. Growing up I had pastors come in and out of my life. None of them really connected with me but every time I have heard Peter speak it hits home. He has been my constant preacher lol! You know he is speaking straight from what God is telling him. He’s truly anointed!
Peter will be greatly missed, but I know God is guiding all of the bands steps and they are all mighty men of God.
Peter, I will miss you but you will never leave my prayers. That goes for the rest of the band also. I love them all (new and old members :P)I keep you in my prayers and welcome Michael! I am looking forward to the future of this band. I know there is a ton of more anointed music to come.
March 13th, 2009 on 11:59 pm
Peter, I’ve always prayed that God would fill your mind with creative lyrics for new songs…and He has always answered that request above and beyond
I know God will still be answering that prayer with you behind-the-scenes, but I will miss hearing them through your voice.
March 14th, 2009 on 1:17 am
I’m still trying to wrap my head around a Newsboys without Peter. But if any man is qualified to fill the gap it’s Tait. I remember seeing Newsboys here in America with dc Talk way back in the day. God bless you Peter and your family, and to the Newsboys and Tait God Bless your future endeavors. I see only good things in the future.
May you ministry continue to flourish.
March 14th, 2009 on 8:33 am
I really hate to see you go peter but I am a really big tait fan so i’m very excited GO TAIT!!!
March 14th, 2009 on 10:20 am
God Bless you Peter as you enter this stage of your life! You are such an inspiration of worship.
March 14th, 2009 on 11:47 am
I am so excited and can’t wait to see Mike sing live in a concert. I always loved DC Talk and was sooo sad to see them seperate - This will be awesome. Now you need to get Toby Mac! It will be different w/Mike as the lead. Hurry to Wisconsin!
March 14th, 2009 on 11:52 am
In my last comment I mentioned that I have always been a DC Talk fan, but I want to add that I am also a huge Newsboys fan and have seen over 16 concerts! Of course it will be sad to see Peter go but I will be excited to see Mike!
March 14th, 2009 on 1:00 pm

March 14th, 2009 on 3:55 pm
I will miss all the shows at Carowinds, Kings Dominion, and Kings Island that me my daughter was able to experience with you guys. Peter you have made a impact on my life from the beginning to the end. I remember the first few shows that I seen you and was amazed by the music but the last few shows have been the best. When you started opening up and sharing your testimony will be what I remember the most about the greatness of the Newsboys. We will still be there to support the group and I am looking forward to see Michael again. God always knows whats best.
March 14th, 2009 on 4:36 pm
dear peter,
this is the saddest news to our family.
we love you so much. there is no way anyone could
replace you.your testimony was so special to hear.
we saw the newsboys three times on the go tour.
we felt so much joy and strength from your words.
you are in our prayers.you are “something beautiful”!
love,
mary
March 14th, 2009 on 6:29 pm
Wow, I am saddened but excited for you Peter. Rest, spend time with your family, and hurry back! While the live shows will be different, the message remains the same - Jesus. God Bless you all as you work to spread the good news! You’re still my faves!
March 14th, 2009 on 10:25 pm
Peter, How sad that you are leaving… Thank you so much for the work you’ve done. We will miss you. You are much loved by your fans.-you can come back anytime.

WHAT?!??!? Newsboys has been my favorite band since I became a Christian 14 years ago! I cried when John left, I cried when Kevin was called home, I cried when Jodi left ( welcome back, by the way ), I was sad to see Phil go - PAul was a lot of fun and he left too! Now Peter?!?!? My inspiration to become a drummer. Well, best of luck to you, my friend. God is makinga lot of transitions in our lives these days, and I can be assured that this is the best for you. You deserve your family, and they deserve you! I’ll miss you Pete! And Michael - welcome home! It should be fun to have you on board. You were always my favorite in dc talk and I prefered your solo albums, so…. Let’s start the new era of newsboys off right! Can’t wait to see you all ( yes, I do mean ALL - Peter ) in Idaho! Much love and God bless.
March 15th, 2009 on 3:04 pm
Our prayers are with you guys and we love you Michael! You and the Lord couldn’t have picked a better choice in Michael, I love his voice and I still listen to all the DC Talk music. Keep it up guys, you’re awesome! Please come to BC Canada soon! Rob

Folks, if you have a chance to go see the Newsboys this year go, and let God minister to your heart, it was so beautiful to see young people committing their lives to Christ, couples going to reconnect in their relationships, an marriages, and most of all The Name of Jesus Christ ripped, out loud, and praised with sincerity, it was awesome!!
This is truly a mission field ministry and I am so glad that Michael Tait will be apart of that, I think his dad will be even more proud of Mike spreading with a stronger impact the gospel message of Jesus.
God’s blessings to all the members and safe traveling mercies.
Bobbie Lee.
March 15th, 2009 on 9:01 pm
Petra went through the same situation. Bob Hartman was on tour from 1972-1994 and then returned in 2003-2005. Bob was in the studio for all of Petra recordings 1974 (Petra)-2005(Jekyll & Hyde). The band continued to tour 1994-2002. Petra retired from touring in 2005. Petra has worked with the Newsboys in recordings and on tours. I have been blessed by Petra and Newsboys ministry for so many years. I thank God for it. I will continue to pray for the Newsboys. I hope it works out with Michael Tait. I have seen Tait and DC Talk in concert also. It was a blessing as well.
March 15th, 2009 on 9:38 pm
Petra comment was from John Rosas
John Schlitt replaced Greg X Volz in 1986 as lead singer. Schlitt was with the band for many years to come. Petra had a very successful tour prior to the change “Beat the System.” Bob Hartman did lead guitar and songwriting for Petra’s ministry. Bob did some lead singing in the early 70’s before Greg Volz took the lead in the late 70’s.

….and so goes the last original member…..
March 16th, 2009 on 12:24 am
Wow… this is the end of an era - more than that, it’s the departure of the last original member of the Newsboys from touring. I’m glad to know that Peter will still be working on future recordings, and that he has one more album as lead singer coming out in May. Please make these “special appearences” often, especially the drum wars.
If I may, I feel that Peter should be nominated for a lifetime achievement Dove Award, for an incredible 22 year career touring with Newsboys. Of course, he still has a lot of music ahead of him, I trust, but perhaps this would be a good time to honour his great work.
To Michael Tait: It’s absolutely fabulous to see you joining Newsboys. This is quite something, to have you as a singer with *two* of the greatest Christian bands ever. God bless, and looking forward to what He has in store now.
March 16th, 2009 on 9:05 pm
Oh!And lastly to add, the diehard Newsboys fans will not be disappointed, the show and stage performance will still be and go on rockin!
Peace!
March 16th, 2009 on 9:18 pm
We love you Peter! For the past several years we have been so blessed my the Newsboys music. We have seen several people be saved by your music. You deserve all the best. We pray God will bless your discion and bless your family! Better step up Tate! Got some big shoes to fill!!! We will pray for you!
March 16th, 2009 on 9:19 pm
Peter,
For your show in Saginaw MI on Friday April 3rd. Can you play “Lost the plot”? I first saw you guys at the Monroe County fair in 1996. In 1997 I heard you sing the song at Icthus Music Fesitval. I am a die hard fan and would love to hear that song live for one last time. Also it would be awesome to hear “The Tide” or “I surrender all”.
Thanks,
Andrew Robbins

ahhhh… lol… ahhh… well there’s a time for everything right… I thank God I was able to see peter live twice… it was amazing… may GOD BE WITH UUU…
March 17th, 2009 on 11:02 am
Peter I’m selfishly very sad, but grateful all you have done. you can come preach at church anytime!!!
March 17th, 2009 on 12:12 pm
Sad to see Peter go… …I say bring back john james, he was the MAN!!!! but Tait will be good (though it won’t be the newsboys, at least peter had a similar voice to John and was an aussie). Curious to see how this will go. Release some of the old songs with tait doing lead to give us a taste… …that would be a good idea.
March 17th, 2009 on 12:33 pm
As a big fan of DC Talk and The Newboys this should be a great transition! It will be different as these are two different guys. They both share Gods heart! To reach the lost and bring those who are in relationship with the Father closer to His Thrown! Blessings to you Peter. I go way back to the days when you were the drummer\backup vocalist. I went to see you guys on the first tour. I ended up in line at six flags over Texas with one of the guys in the band…he had a strange accent and i asked him where he was from. He said -m orinally from Australia but am here to play with my band today. Pretty cool! As for Tait my friends mom who is in her 80s still talks about the cute little black boy that could really sing and how great it was that he came to our mall. That was about 8 years ago and she still remembers it! Pretty funny! Bless u guys and hope it all goes great on the new tour!
March 17th, 2009 on 3:21 pm
God Bless you Peter and God bless the ministry of newsboys. Enjoy this new season in your life. Welcome Michael Tait and may you be blessed in this new endeavor.
March 17th, 2009 on 4:34 pm
I cannot describe the shock I am experiencing. I was lucky enough to catch the Woodbridge concert and get to chat briefly with the Newsboys for the second time, which was great. Maybe I should have guessed something was up when Michael came out (??), but I didn’t. Peter–I will miss you like crazy. For me, you are the face of the Newsboys, and as the singer, God speaks through you. I am glad you will still be involved in the band. Does this mean you will no longer be involved in Global Tribe missions?? Prayers for you and Summer. I know all the travel must really put a strain. She will be glad to have you home.
Duncan, Jeff, and Jody: You guys are great, too. I will continue to lift you all up in prayer as you continue God’s service.
Michael: Welcome! I was a big DC Talk fan, as well, and you will work great with this group of godly men! I have a photo of you and my 9 year old son when he was only 3 mos. old that I keep in his baby book.
Although, his first concert was Spirit West Coast in Monterey….the Newsboys.
Prayers to you all. Peter–Stay as involved as you can.
March 17th, 2009 on 5:35 pm
Wow. I’ve got to be honest. I’ve been listening to the Newsboys long enough now to know that sugar coating isn’t something they admire, so I’ll shoot straight. I was at the show in Greensboro Saturday (3/14) and it just didn’t work at all for me. I know music is subjective, but everyone I talked to pretty much felt the same way. Michael is great in his own right and “In the Light” sounded good, but that’s not Newsboys. “I am Free” was ok since it’s been covered by so many people (including my church, in worship) but “Something Beautiful” and “Wherever We Go” were almost painful and I won’t even comment on “Breakfast”. Understand, I’m not saying it CAN’T work, I’m saying it didn’t. I think if you stay away from the big hits…maybe rework some of the songs that didn’t get much airplay, then Michael could pull it off, but any Newsboys song that people have fallen in love with will only make fans cringe when sung by any non-Aussie, no matter how good they are. This really is “the truth in love”, because nobody besides God and your mothers love you guys more than me.
Peace!

Peter,
Thank you for your years of dedicated service to Adonai. I want to share a quick story of how you touched lives. 3 years back at Spirit West Coast Del Mar, the band was oerforming and our seats were in the front of the 3rd balcony. I had a severe fear of hights, and as people started to dance, the floor SHOOK! I was terrified and rab into the building. I was missing my favorite band, and worsip time with my family. You did “I am Free” & I prayed for my fear to be taken from me. I rejoined my family and danced along with the crowd. The vertigo that had paralyzed me for years had lifted. Thank you for being a faithful servant and heeding the call. You deserve to take time for your family and yourself. You will be dearly missed, and always have a place in our hearts.
Michael, Welcome! I hope you are blessed in your faithful service also.

I just want to say that I was at Acquire the Fire in Greensboro, NC this past weekend and Michael you sound amazing! I am very glad you are the new singer(:
March 18th, 2009 on 12:55 pm
DCTalk and Newsboys. I grew up listening to you guys and have been a huge fan of both groups, and always thought you should do a colaboration. Well this is the time! Peter you will be missed, you have touched many lives through your music, and will always be a newsboy. Michael, it is great to see you back at the mic. It is even better to see you as a member of the Newsboys. It brings me back to my teenage years when you and DCTalk both played Creation. I know God will do great things with you and the band. God bless, you Jodi, Duncan, and Jeff, as you continue to share the Gospel through song.
March 18th, 2009 on 1:44 pm
I have to admit that I was so dissapointed when I first heard the news. I can’t imagine what you as a band must have gone through in reaching this decision. You are with out a doubt my favorite Band of all time, and as a Childrens Pastor I understand the cost of Ministry. It’s all for the King which makes it worth it but it’s not always easy. Peter, You will be greatly missed, But I won’t be the one to discourage a new direciton in God’s leading in your Life. I Saw you in Stabler Arena in Bethlehem PA in March. It was AWESOME! I always love how Boldly you share the Gospel. Be Blessed as you move Forward in HIM.
March 18th, 2009 on 3:50 pm
man i’ve always admired you guys.. The Newsboys will never be the same but it’ll be interesting to see which direction you gus go.. I’ll miss phill joel and peter furler. I’ve always like dctalk so it will be good to see tait in action
God bless!
March 18th, 2009 on 7:43 pm
I wouold like to say that the concert last night at Cherry Hills Community Church was great. Michael you were great. My family and I are huge Newsboys fans. Watching the band last night makes me anticipate the new music that will come from you. Michael thank you for your inspirational words. You made my wife and I smile with some of your dance moves during I am Free. You reminded us of Peter. your voice is infectious. It gave us chills. Thank you Newsboys for a great show. Duncan you ROCK!!!!!!!!!! God Bless.
Troy
March 19th, 2009 on 9:55 pm
I have to echo the comments of Alex and Troy. I took my wife and two kids to the show at Cherry Hills, which is south of Denver, CO. While there were one or two times where Michael looked like he was uncomfortable, the overall show was AMAZING! I was so worried about the sound that the group would have without Peter and with Micheal’s voice being so much different than his. But Micheal was fantastic!! It might have been a little different and I definitely missed the Aussie accent that comes through in a few of the songs, I could not have been more pleased with the event. All of the groups that played were great Voda was easily the second best of the group. And as Troy said Duncan you are the man. As a past drummer I can only imagine how difficult it is to drum when your kit does what it does. But as a viewer it was one of the coolest things I have seen on stage in years!
You guys are fantastic and thank you for blessing us with your talent!
March 20th, 2009 on 1:56 am
hi Peeps we just had the pleasure of seeing the newsboys in concert with the new lead man. March 20th, 2009 on 1:59 am
I read above about you should change your name or quit. But as I listened to a great show tonight in Bakersfield I watched my 8 year old granddaughters face. I would just like to say please keep on . Because nothing could have made her happier.Your a group not a person. Kids need your music .And yes if you come back next year we will be there with the grandkids.
March 21st, 2009 on 5:30 pm
Michael,
We all welcome you to the band as true newsboys fans and we’ll continue to support you with the rest, Jody, Jeff, and Duncan. Say goodbye to Peter for us. He has been fantastic and I must say, an incredible brother in Christ to us most of all. My family and I are all looking forward to hearing more from you all very soon. God bless and see you!

Wow. After 15 years and 5 concerts, the Newsboys have been my favorite band and will always hold a special place in my heart. Peter has always been the face of the Newsboys to me and what an amazing run it’s been. Very interesting and amazing that Michael Tait is stepping up to the microphone ( :p ) as the new lead singer. Quite amazing that I have been a fan of dcTalk as well! I wish the best of luck to Peter and the Newsboys. Good luck and God Bless from a long time fan!
March 23rd, 2009 on 10:17 am
Peter you are wonderful and will be missed-God has big plans for you and your family. With that said- I saw Michael in concert last night as a Newsboy!
Michael you are awesome- thank you for stepping in for Peter! The whole band was excellent, fun and very inspiring! Thank you for your ministry. God Bless You- In Jesus Name.
March 23rd, 2009 on 11:11 am
Thank you Peter for sharing the gift that God has giving you. God Bless you and your family….I have enjoyed the music that you and the rest of the band have giving us…you will be missed. Can not wait to see the band at Busch Gardens Williamsburg in June and check out Michael as the new lead singer. I have enjoyed Newsboys music for several years and have seen the concerts ever time the band has come close, and now my children like your music as well and are excited to see the Newsboys in concert for the first time. God Bless every one of you in the Newsboys family.
March 23rd, 2009 on 12:02 pm
Dear Michael,
We thoroughly enjoyed the concert last night, in Modesto, and were blessed by your performance. God has blessed you with a strong, clear voice to sing these songs so powerfully! You looked like you have always been a part of the group. Newsboys, thank you for a fun-filled evening and may God bless you in this transition.
March 24th, 2009 on 12:46 am
I grew up with both Newsboys and DC Talk. So while I’m sad to see Peter go, I’m excited to see what Michael brings.
March 24th, 2009 on 11:06 am
wow
it took me a long time to figure out what to say here. besides my mom, the newsboys, under peter’s leadership, has been a primary influence in my spiritual life.
i do agree that an era is over. however, this era will forever live in my heart, and the hearts of the many million fans who have cheered, sung along, and danced to the aural and spiritual songs of the newsboys. i have already cried twice.
however, i have unspeakable joy
at what God is going to do.
love you all.

and if you ever need a clarinet player on an album, it would be an honor if you would e-mail me.
March 24th, 2009 on 11:08 am
wow this is new. why did pete have to leave though. even though i am not a huge fan of the newsboys i am still in shock. but i am looking foward to hearing michael tait sing with them because i was a huge fan of dc talk and i still listen to them so well see how they do
March 24th, 2009 on 1:04 pm
Good for you, Peter! Enjoy your time with your family, you deserve it!!!
I am very sad that I probably won’t see you in concert again… but, I saw Newsboys with Michael Tate in concert a couple of nights ago and I must say, if we can’t ahve the original (Peter), Michael is a close second! I was sad when the band announced the change, but the stage quickly came to life when Michael started singing. My family and I had a blast!
March 24th, 2009 on 5:24 pm
Dearest Peter
You have that one in a million voice and I will dearly miss you. The new guy is good but not the same. I know that the lord has moved you in a new direction but I pray that one day you come back to the band you created. Enjoy the break I hope this is not permnament.
March 24th, 2009 on 5:31 pm
DEAR PETER
I REALLY MISS YOU. I HOPE COME BACK TO THE BAND AND ALSO YOU ARE A REALLY NICE PERSON TO KNOW AND YOU ARE THE BEST. ALSO I HOPE YOU ALWAYS HAVE A WONDERFUL DAY.
YOU ARE THE BEST PETER
LOVE RILEY
March 24th, 2009 on 7:05 pm
Wow, I am surprised about the news and it’s bittersweet. I have been a huge fan for many years mainly because I was often reminded how christians can have fun, and rock out while hearing the gospel all at the same time. Michael is very talented as well. I was a fan of DC talk for many years as well. It would have been nice to see fewer performances and keep them as the band they were.
Praying for you from Roseville, CA
March 24th, 2009 on 7:48 pm
Thank you so much to Peter for being the best lead singer of any band in the history of music. I’m really bummed that the Newboys will never be the same again, but there comes a time when people need to change what they are doing, and i understand that, but it’s still just so sad. I will always be a Newsboys fan. Lots of love to everyone. God Bless!
March 25th, 2009 on 12:24 am
In the coming days, Peter will be releasing a personal statement on the band’s website in more detail.
Stay tuned, for King Peter I will arouse himself from his royal chambers holding his gold scepter (mic) and bequeath upon us wherefore why he is no longer songeth as lead vocalist.
March 25th, 2009 on 11:50 am
Again, will miss you Peter. Was any thought given to asking John to come back or asking Philip Joel whether they were interested in the slot?
March 25th, 2009 on 1:32 pm
March 25th, 2009 on 1:40 pm
We’ll miss you, Peter! The band/songs won’t be the same without you. Nevertheless, we also like Michael Tait & we look forward to the unique sound he’ll bring to the band.
Wish we could see you (Peter) in concert (in Houston) one more time before you leave the band!
March 25th, 2009 on 6:43 pm
March 26th, 2009 on 1:08 pm
I have been a fan since I met the original members at a concert in Davis, CA on October 10,1984,you opened up for Steven Curtis Chapman. You were so humble then, and still very humble now. My God bless each and every person involved in this “growing” time in your lives. I am glad Peter is not leaving alltogether. I was really bumbed that I wasn’t able to go the the concert this week in Redding, CA.
By the way,my 6yr old son is begging for a Peter hairstyle!!!
March 26th, 2009 on 1:39 pm
I was at the concert that Michael Tate performed at with 12,000 people and it was amazing. Yall should check it out!
March 26th, 2009 on 2:53 pm
This is a very sad time…to be thinking of losing Peter! His unique voice, energy, joy, and style have been a huge part of the Newsboys for the past many years. It was sad to lose Phil Joel years ago, but this is tragic. I am sure that Michael will be a great replacement, and I am glad that Peter and Michael are on good terms. Yet, it will be a sad moment when you are gone, Peter! Farewell!
March 26th, 2009 on 2:55 pm
We saw newsboys in concert last night in Eugene, Oregon. Thank you for allowing God to lead you Peter and Michael. The smiles shared between band members and Michael were a blessing and an assurance God is in control. Change is difficult, but watching you all play together, praising God, reminiscing of old songs and sharing your love of music and God was awesome. May the Lord bless and keep you.
March 27th, 2009 on 8:30 am
We have really enjoyed you as lead of Newsboys. We see you at Sonshine in Mn every year and we are going to miss your face up there! You in my mind are what makes Newsboys stand out! We are going to miss you! Good luck with your future and we will try to enjoy with the same enthusiasm the future of Newsboys!
March 27th, 2009 on 10:31 am
Peter, Your voice and presence at the concerts will be GREATLY missed! I loved hearing you speak in between songs about how the Lord worked in your life. Isn’t God GReat!
You all have been such an inspiration to me and provided the most amazing songs during my lifetime (20 some years). I have so many favorites! The first time I saw you in concert was LifeLight Festival in Sioux Falls, SD in 1995. You all amazed me! Thanks for doing the Lord’s will the Lord’s way! Enjoy the time with your family now, slow down and get some well deserved REST!!! We hope you touch many more lives for Christ through the songs you write and the people you meet. Please keep in touch via videos and e-mail with what the Lord does in your life in the future! We love hearing you talk - I think it’s the accent that helps a lot! =)
God Bless! ~Numbers 6:24-26

God bless, Peter. Couldn’t have been an easy decision.
Being a fairly new Christian (6 years), I believe the first time I heard newsboys was on a WOW worship cd…and then in the Veggie Tales Jonah video. I have loved your music ever since.
Michael, I love your song ‘All You Got’ especially and look forward to your new venture with the newsboys.
March 27th, 2009 on 1:49 pm
Remember!! We are all gonna spend eternity together. I know I can spend a couple hundred years kickin w/ Peter. Reminising about old times @ spirit west coast etc…Honestly I get a lump in my throat when I think of ya not singin(makin albums), can ya at least sing Pete on the albums?? No…I know for sure Mike is gonna rock the “MIC!!!” I’m a HUGE Dctalk fan and wouldn’t want anyone else to take the place. Pete, I think your due the verse in psalms,”He makes me lie down next to still waters.” 22 years….thats it brother, chill awhile mate! May God anoint you and your fam. I remember in 1997 listening to AIR1 for the 1st time working a night crew @ stater bros. grocery store and it was “breakfast” that “DREW” me in. Ever since my wife 3 kidos have been huge fans..I had to write a novel here for all the memories! Thanks forever PETE!! ~stevo
March 27th, 2009 on 2:17 pm
God is doing a new thang…with the newsboys! (hey, it even fits the tune!)
God bless you, Peter! My grandfather made the same decision when he was in a country band (back when it was called “western” music) for awhile, but he too quit the band when he wanted to be home with his family more.
God bless you, Michael! It’s going to be neat hearing what the Newsboys sound without the Aussie accent. When I used to jam with some friends we would sometimes sing a Newsboys tune and try to imitate the accent, although we never did get that good:)
What’s next, a band with a lineup featuring Mike, Jeff, Jody, Duncan, Toby, and Kevin?!?!?!?!
March 30th, 2009 on 6:26 pm
I realy like the song Something Beautiful
March 31st, 2009 on 2:01 pm
I caught the show in Seattle March 27, and it was GREAT! The transition to Michael practically didn’t exist since he fits right in, right away! He has a great voice, and it will be nice to see him all the time again, since I was a pretty big fan of DC Talk and have been missing their presence as of late.
April 2nd, 2009 on 1:04 pm
I have seen Newsboys 8 times and never got to see dctalk. If I get to go to a concert in the future, it will be like the best of both worlds!
Peter, you will never be replaced to all of us who love you. You have been an inspiration, a source of strength, & a devoted man of God for so long. With God’s intervention you have produced songs that will be forever etched into our souls, catchy tunes popping into our heads at any moment & being sung at the tops of our lungs in the privacy of our cars or in an open arena with thousands of others.
Michael, welcome to the group! I pray that Newsboys just keeps building and building & can continue to “thrive”
even if the torch has to be passed every once in a while.
I look forward to future CD’s & concerts. Love & miss you Peter, God bless you always.
Hope from Alabama
April 2nd, 2009 on 7:55 pm
I hate that Peter is leaving but Michael is the best replacement there could possibly be. I hope Peter will come back. He explains the gospel in the concerts better than anyone I’ve ever heard. So clear and spirit led. You can feel the Spirit moving. I wish the family the best.

I am so blessed to have seen the newsboys with Peter twice. Thank you so much for your heart for God and gift of music, Peter! I will miss your distinct voice and stage presence and all the wonderful things you bring on stage. Thank you for helping Michael transition into the group. Best wishes to you, Peter. God bless you and your family!

Dear Peter,
I have been a fan of the Newsboys for a long time. I have always loved Peter’s voice. Peter is the Newsboys - and it is going to be hard to see him step aside. I know that this is what God wants, but I will miss Peter!!!!! I do welcome Michael Tait. Both of you are in God’s hands!!
I WILL ALWAYS TRULY MISS YOU PETER FURLER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
April 5th, 2009 on 2:41 pm
Hello Boys, I have to say, I was extremely disappointed when after buying Newsboys tickets I discovered that Michael Tait would be the new frontman for the Newsboys. I had never seen the Newsboys but have loved their music for at least the last three years, so I was excited to finally see them, (with Peter). At one point I thought, “how can I get my money back?” I figured Okay great, I get to see Tait sing Newsboys songs because the Newsboys aren’t the Newsboys without Peter. But, after seeing the newly evolved Newsboys I have to say…Phenomenal!
You guys couldn’t have picked a better man for the job and I feel like I got an added bounus, I got to see one third of DC Talk….Whoohoo!! You guys are fantastic, love you all and I look forward to seeing you at our county fair this year. WOW, I’ll get to see you twice in one year! How truly blessed I am. Keep up the awesome work you do and many blessings to you all.

From the moment we found the Newsboys video as a trailer on a Mylon Leflever video, we have loved them. We saw them live in Niagara Falls Canada opening for ML and Broken Heart and have followed them since. We made Kingdom Bound our annual trip with the Newsboys Concert as the main event. In 1993, the “Not Ashamed” album was our theme for our family road trip across Europe.
Several years ago I thought I would not be able to adjust to the loss of John James as front man on the Newsboys but I was wrong. I am sad that Peter is gone but appreciate all that he has poured into the band. Last night in London Ontario, we waited with anticipation to see what this new change would bring. A mix of nostaglia and new music made me think that perhaps Heaven will incorporate musicans from different times and places into an amazing heavenly choir.
Step up to the Microphone Michael Tait!
April 6th, 2009 on 12:06 pm
As stunned as I am, I am also reminding myself that Peter is human, with a family that needs him. I am SO THRILLED that tait will be replacing him; though none can truly do so I am glad they chose such an anointed voice to add to their sound… I have to be on the watch forupcoming albums. What a beautiful was to pass the torch.

I saw the newsboys in concert twice, the most recent being April 3rd in Saginaw MI. I didn’t know of Peter’s leaving until today, although I couldn’t have paid closer attention during the concert had I known before hand! I will always remember the way Peter quoted Scripture from heart during the show. May God Bless you for your efforts over the years.
April 6th, 2009 on 6:53 pm
Wow! when I first heard the news I was shocked. I am a huge fan of Newsboys. I’ve been listening to them for about 13 years now. Peter, thanks for always giving your all. You will be sadly missed.
I am a fan of michael, since I’ve foloowed him through his DC talk days. This will be a bit of an adjustment, but I know he’ll do just fine.
God bless you Pete! thanks for the memories!
April 7th, 2009 on 12:11 pm
I was very sadden to hear that Peter was leaving as I have been a fan for years but I also remembered Michael from the DC days and thought the least I could do was hear him to see if the fit was right.
Last night I attended the concert here in TO and it was fabulous! Michael has a different but very appealing voice and spirit. Welcome Michael!
I will always miss Peter’s voice and personality but I wish him well in all that God has prepared for him and his family in the path ahead.
April 7th, 2009 on 2:00 pm

April 8th, 2009 on 12:17 am
I found out about this change after i had bought my ticket for tonight’s concert in Canada, and was disappointed initially - i’ve seen Peter perform in Vancouver and he has a powerful energy - but tonight’s show was truly amazing!! Michael has an amazing annointing bringing a glorious evolution to the band! Michael, you’re truly my brother from another mother, and rather than losing Peter, we are all just blessed to have you join the group! Newsboys ROCK! Keep up the good work… can’t wait to hear you all in studio together, WOW!
April 8th, 2009 on 6:26 pm
Will certainly miss peter as the front man, the first concert I took my son to was the Newsboys and it changed his life…
Gog Bless you Peter, and God Bless Michael coming in, hope to see them here in Calgary soon, this is God’s plam for the Newboys as it was when John Schlitt replaced Greg X Volz in Petra and they went on for many more years of life changing music and concerts
Long live the Newsboys!!!
thanks Bill

Congrats to Michael. For the past couple of months (since at least December, Michael you have been on my mind. I would pray but didnt know what to pray. God just told me to pray. I would look on the internet to see if anything was going on and there wasnt anything. I prayed God would lead you in the direction he wanted you to go in. Today, I looked on your myspace page and someone mentioned your being the lead singer for the Newsboys. Well, God had other people praying for you also as you sent up prayers in the Heavenly places. As you sought God, God had some of us prayer warriors praying for you also. I am so glad for you. I will continue to pray as the Holy Spirit leads me. Congrats again.
April 10th, 2009 on 10:48 am
Wow! We got into the Newsboys when our kids got into their teen years. You guys bridged the Generation Gap for our family, helping us to grow together in Christ and for this we are eternally grateful. We pray that this will continue to be the case for many more families until the Lord returns. Although it truly is the end of an era, God is in control of the beginning of this new one. God bless you, Peter, Michael and all, as you continue serving the Lord and allowing Him to direct your paths.
April 10th, 2009 on 9:50 pm
Peter and the guys,
We will never forget the love and concern you showed us during the death of our son, Kevin, in December, 2000. You drove the 200 miles from Nashville to Louisville in snow and ice to be with us on the day of his funeral which not only showed us your love for him, but your love for Jesus in helping us through a most difficult time of our lives. Kevin so enoyed his time playing and singing with you guys and making the Going Public CD.
As you close one chapter and open another, we wish you all the best. Thank you for the great music and the great witness for Christ. As Kevin used to say, “God good, devil bad!”
Blessings to you Peter and Summer and to the Newsboys.
Love in Christ,
John and Linda Mills

Thank you for the wonderful music. The Newsboys have been a great inspiration to me and my famly. When I sought Jesus into my life the first song that I heard was “He Reigns”. After that, I have never been the same. I have been to two newsboys concerts since then. Thank you for your inspirational lyrics!! God bless you.

It is so sad that Peter is going to be out from Newsboys, but I hope that you come back soon, rest very well and enjoy your family that is necessary too. Thank you Michael Tait to accept the challenge, I know you since you were with dcTalk, congratulations and welcome to board.
April 28th, 2009 on 7:58 am
I just saw Michael perform this weekend at Acquire the Fire in Tampa. Let me tell you that there were two acts on before them and they in no way go the crowd going like the Newsboys. Michael did a great job and I could see how the band is trying to change some of the songs to adjust to his vocals. He still brings great energy and charisma which is a newsboys staple of a fantastic live show. In the long run, I think this will be a great change.
Having said that, I am also very saddened to see Peter go, but totally understand the need to be closer to home with family. I am so grateful now that I got to see him last year at Rock the Universe in Universal. I remember it was a humid Florida night and Peter was wearing a 3 piece suit. He was sweating so much that he kept rubbing his head every minute and even made a comment about his attire at one point. But you know what, he still gave one of the best performances I’ve ever seen (and I’ve been to alot of shows); and never took off his clothes. This is the sign of a true gentleman with class and a great frontman. It was a magical night, as the people in the crowd sang along with every song. Peter, I have followed you guys since the beginning. Thank you for your hard work in the ministry of music. May God bless you and your family.

My first Christian concert was in November of 2007 at Van Andel arena in Grand Rapids Michgian. It was the Newsboys headlining Kutless and New World Son. My wife to be said that she had seen ‘em before and that they were good. After that concert I was blown away. My fiance and I saw the Newsboys 2 more times in less than 7 months, down in Indiana, and at the Big Ticket Festival in Gaylord Michigan. The Newsboys helped knock my faith up too many notches to count. I have spread your music to friends and family. The Newsboys have turned me onto all kinds of different Christian music that I never new existed. I am a late bloomer. I’m 41. My wife and I are huge fans of you Peter, along with Duncan, Jeff, and Jody. We are also excited to see what God has in store for Michael Tait and the new Newsboys. God bless and congratulations.
April 30th, 2009 on 7:28 pm
I’m Shocked! I have been a Newsboys fan for many years and I think that the Newsboys are probably the greatest Christian band to date. What other band has so many songs that we sing in churches across the nation as the Newsboys. No other band has successfully written music that is both worshipful and has a punch of passion like Peter has written. Peter, your messages in between songs at concerts were passionate and anyone could tell that you were sharing from your heart.
When someone mentions the Newsboys, most people think of Peter. He is the heart of the band. I hope that you realize that you have done major surgery on the band and I hope that the heart transplant is successful. Peter I am glad that you will still be running things behind the scenes and with God’s wisdom and your passion for Christ that you will make sure that the spirit of the band is as good or better than before.
Thanks for all of your great worship songs - my kids know them by heart and sing them in the car and at our church kids groups.
May 1st, 2009 on 8:42 am
Thank you Peter for all the wonderful music you & the Newsboys gave to us over the years & that you had such a large part in. I’m convinced that once we gather before the throne in Heaven that you will once again lead us in a chorus of “I AM FREE” & not only ‘Dance like David danced’, but actually dance along side WITH David. We got a little piece of heaven right here on earth when we worshiped & sang with you & the Newsboys. Let Jesus name be praised forever!

Message to Mike Tait,
Hey Mike, it’s been a many a years since i’ve since you and talk to you. You know I can never forget my first friend and next door neighbor from 628 and 630 E Street NE DC LOL. Man we had some good times together on that block as kids and 632 E Street was where we received our first base training in the Lord under your Uncle and your dad Bishop Lewis and Elder Nate Tait Sr. Man these were some good days brother! I just wanted to touch bases with you and wish you a Happy (Belated) Birthday (May 18) You know I can’t never forget because our B-days are only 17 days apart. Oh I didn’t forget you owe me a bed brother..remember you slept in my crib while God was strengthing my body in GW Hospital so I could live. Thanks for keeping my crib warm for me LOL! All Jokes aside I miss brother and always thinking about my first bud. Much love to you. Whenever you’re in town here at home look me up in the White Pages in PG County. Much Love Brian.
PS My mom and your mom still keep in touch after all these years! Peace out BB

Since 2001 I’ve been to EVERY Newsboys concert held at Universal Studios FL and I’ve never ever been disappointed - not even once!! I’m so humbled and privileged to be given that opportunity!
You guys are the BEST!!!
Peter, it was a pleasure everytime to see you perform! You are an amazing person on stage! - great zeal for God! You’ll be greatly missed. I wish you all the best for the future.
I wish Michael Tate and the rest of the band all of God’s blessings.
I agree with Dean - it seems like the end of an era..But I also agree with the others as it may be the beginning of a new one!
June 2nd, 2009 on 6:07 pm
So many emotions coming from such adoring fans speaks volumes about the influence of your work. I, like so many others, have enjoyed the music and message of the Newsboys for many years. I was sold by the testimony shared by Peter, sitting comfortably on an outdoor stage as though the audience was in his home; and I remember being impressed that God had put together so much talent and faith in one group of artists. The band and their families have been the topic of so many of our prayers over the years and we will continue to cover you all in prayer. May you always have the wisdom to know God’s will, the strength to stay His course and may you end the day with His peace in your hearts and homes. We will miss Peter on stage, so glad you will still be active with the band. Welcome to the family Michael. See you in Gaylord. God bless you all.
June 7th, 2009 on 7:31 am
I just want to say, that when I heard the news that Peter is stepping back, my first reaction was heart pain. I have worshiped with Newsboys for years!! but I love Tait, Peter you have been working hard for so long, you need a sibatical!! so all in all, I think that Tait will bring love and praise for God and move the band forward as well as staying true to the roots of what makes Newsboys amazing. we will dearly miss you Peter, all praise and blessings,
Pastor Kevin

Wow…I’m floored. I LOVE the new album; IMHO, it’s the best yet. I found out about Peter stepping down from the lead singing while doing research on a supporting tour for the new CD.
Peter, thank you for the gift of your singing and song writing. I’m glad you will still be contributing to the band but your awesome voice will be missed!
I liked the later DC Talk material, the Newsboys have really been the only christian rock band I’ve been able to identify with over the years. Nothing comes close so keep up the great work and God bless you all!
June 12th, 2009 on 10:25 am
Peter so sorry to see your leaving the tour but i’m so glad your still doing studio work you are so God motivated on stage it’s awesome God bless you for all the blessings He’s given through you. Hello Michael Tait though i never really knew much of DC Talks music that i know i love. I know you wouldn’t have been asked or accepted into the Newsboys unless it was the will of God Almighty and from all i’ve heard of you from friends and the internet you are most definately the best person for this job. I pray God uses you for greater and greater things in Newsboys and that He pours out His blessings on you in abundance. God bless
June 23rd, 2009 on 7:01 am
Gotta tell ya that I thoroughly enjoyed the concert at Big Ticket in Gaylord last weekend. Yes, Peter has a distinct voice that has over the years defined the Newsboys sound but Michael did a great job as did the whole band. As one of the front men from another band said that weekend - give it up for the band since they make me sound much better than I am. Just saying that the whole Newsboys band is great and they put on a great concert! God’s blessings on you all and especially Michael as you fill really big shoes!

You’ll be missed Peter! At least you’ll still be part of the band in some capacity. Things won’t be the same without you.
To Michael: I’ll be looking forward to where the newsboys go with a new frontman, you’ll do well.
God bless you all!

i’m just hearing today, wow i dont know what to say, there is this heaviness in my heart that i wont be seeing you peter, you are to me what a christian music artist is all about. though i have never attended any of your shows, but i know one day i will, and one day we shall see.
welcome to micheal, God bless you for giving your all to Him.
I have told everyone that cares to listen and to those who dont care to listen about the newsboys and i will continue to spread the gospel in nigeria.

Just got back from the Unity Christian Music festival in Muskegon, Mi where the Newsboys just performed. I agree … there is no one like Peter but if I had to replace him … Michael Tait would be the replacement. An outstanding show as always as this is the fourth time I have seen the Newsboys in concert. Fans … you are in good hands with Michael … he is an amazing talent!!!

I was not aware of the change and had not seen DC Talk in concert so I was disappointed when I realized that The Newsboys had a new lead singer. That is, until I heard him sing and figured out who he is! I felt like I got suprised with a fabulous two for one deal! The energy of Michael and the band flowed through the audience and I was moved to tears. The presence of God was evident on the stage and in the crowd that night. We are blessed to have such talent in our music era. Thanks for an awesome show, guys!

August 25th, 2009 on 8:04 am
I was more than shocked to hear that Peter would be stepping down from frontman with the Newsboys. He definitely brings a certain style to the show. I have seen the Newsboys three times at the New Song Festival in Kentucky; the last time on August 15th with Mike Tait as frontman. The show was awesome. Of course, Peter will be missed, but the Newsboys could not have picked a better lead singer. As one era ends, another begins. I am looking forward to seeing the Newsboys again. GOD Bless you guys.
September 1st, 2009 on 8:11 pm
you were the first band I love and the first band I have ever heard I WILL MISS YOU PETER
September 3rd, 2009 on 8:50 am
I attended the concert in Lincoln last night. Didn’t keep up on the band changes (March??) - Mr. Furler I missed you so very much. It was difficult to hear Michael trying to do the songs meant for you. Michael is awesome in his own right with his songs. Keep writing/singing PF, live & love the times with your family - God has blessed you & yours. Sleep well
September 6th, 2009 on 11:49 pm
I just saw both Peter and Michael perform At LifeLight in front of about 70,000 and they both have unique styles. Michael gave a powerful incredible performance. I think Newsboys fans will like the change, but will also miss Peter.
September 8th, 2009 on 11:05 pm
Peter,
There is a time when we must pass onto others the craft we learned. Thank you for all you have done and my God’s blessing be with you and the Newsboys. Enjoy the time you can with family. You can now take the time to teach others the beauty that joining music with God’s word can be joy many seek in a dark world. Teach others how to enjoy this craft you were blessed with.
Mike

I left my comments and I noticed they were censored. I was hoping that the NEWSBOYS were willing to post feelings on both sides of the issue, but I can see the integrity is severly lacking since the decision NOT to post my TRUE comments
September 14th, 2009 on 8:31 pm
Peter,
“Go” is the best album ever!!! You were simply amazing, “something beautiful” from God himself! Thank you for the music and the message. I will miss you!

hello, newsboys! i am excited that michael tait is the new lead singer of the newsboys! everybody needs a break, peter. i am glad that you are happy to retire being the lead singer, but i am excited that you are still going to have some special apperances. you guys are my favorite band, and thank you for keeping up the good work! michael, i am looking forward to hearing you sing, soon! have a great time!
September 17th, 2009 on 3:23 pm
Peter,
You will be greatly missed as the lead vocalist, I’m glad you will continue to be writing the songs though, you have an amazing God-given talent for clever song writing. I will continue to support the Newsboys ministry and look forward to the “new” Newsboys with Michael Tait. Keep on Rocking for the Rock of our Salvation, Jesus Christ!
September 17th, 2009 on 10:23 pm
After listening to Newsboys for years feeling the mission through the music and lyrics it brings pain to me to say that I could not feel anything in Michael Tate performing as the new lead singer. There is just to much transition in his voice, which seems like is gone and is all nasal, no harmony and it seems like a show more than a mission.
September 18th, 2009 on 10:19 am
Last night I took my son to the Newsboys concert here in WA State. When I saw Peter was not going to be there, I was thinking of not going, but just as God accpepts us, I decide to accept the change and let me tell you, MICHAEL TAIT IS AWESOME!!!!! What an amazing talent. He blew our minds with his Godly gift of singing and praise. It was an AWESOME event. I want a Newsboys CD with him in it. I will definetly be back if Mr. Tait is singing. DC talk albums will be added to my collection for sure. Do not judge people, Mr. Tait is an excellent choice for this band. Very Very pleased. GOD BLESS YOU Mr. Tait, you are an amazing, talented, godly indivdual and we thankyou for the wonderful show you put on last night at the Puyallup Fair. The Newsboys, new boy, Rocks!!
September 19th, 2009 on 12:47 am
I am so shocked!! i just found out about this!! i came to this website to tell the boys that i was kind of put off by some of their music choices lately with the heavy guitar riffs and all. i felt it was all getting a bit noisy. Then i found this out and I’m shocked!!! I understand his choice to be with his family and i respect it. Micheal Tait?…hmm. All i can say is that i hope he does some solo projects in the future. GOD bless U Peter and enjoy your family!!!
September 19th, 2009 on 8:09 pm
I’m so excited. Michael will be a wonderful addition to the newsboys and his energy is really synonymous with the energy the newsboys are known for. He will be a wonderful fit, and the fact that Peter will still be involved in steering the group is just wonderful!
September 23rd, 2009 on 3:40 pm
Mr.Peter Furler is a great singer! I had just recently started listening to the band’s songs, with He Riegns being the first one i listened to, and he is was an amazing lead singer. i will miss you sooo much!it won’t be the same without you as the lead singer. may God bless you and your family!…please come back
September 24th, 2009 on 11:14 am
Michael Tait was an excellent choice! Peter has always brought a high level of energy to the Newsboys and Michael has that same impact on his audience as well. Michael’s musical talent will ‘Shine’ with the Newsboys!
September 26th, 2009 on 12:06 pm
I will miss Peter. I am happy for Michael! The Newsboys have helped me so much. I can’t wait to hear Michael. I’ll miss you Peter. God Bless! <3

I am excited to hear the Newsboys this next year at Spirit West Coast Del Mar. I think that Michael will rock the house with a new sound. I do miss Peter though. He is one of a kind but I think that choosing Michael Tait for their front man was a wise choice.
September 30th, 2009 on 8:21 pm
I will definitely miss hearing you Peter. I have listened to you guys since the beginning and you have been my favorite band through out time. I have always loved Dc talk as well, and I am excited to hear Michael as the newsboys new lead. Have a blast spending more time with your fam. Michael was a great choice. God bless!!

My 6 year old, Dustin, has been so inspired by the Newsboys. He loves to play the guitar and drums. It seems to be his gift. He worships through music and prays. God listens to his prayers, it is awesome. He is a miracle child who has lived against the odds with blessings of guardian angels and God’s protection. He was born with a medical condition that is very rare and life-threatening. He will always have this condition, but he will always have God’s protection. God has performed miracles in Dustin’s life. He is here for a special reason. Thanks to the Newsboys for being a part of that inspiration and hope in his little life. He wore out the Houston tour DVD (literally). He particularly emulates Duncan. We will be at the Armory in Albany, he is going to be looking for Peter! We will really enjoy Michael, I’m sure. I told him Michael wants to have a “turn” singing. He gets that!
November 13th, 2009 on 7:55 am
this is the beginning of new era for the newsboys. for me, its really hard to accept that tait will replace furler. but i realized that newsboys is a ministry, they serve God. God put tait there for a purpose.

Newsboys rock!!! I love u guys and God bless you all,and Michael Tait I think you are awsome and have an amazing voice. Your band is fantastic!
December 4th, 2009 on 12:10 am
I just started listening to Christian music again. I used to go to concerts all the time. I was a HUGE Newsboys fan and loved John’s and Peter’s voices. They are definitely unique. I have been to a few concerts between ‘97 and ‘99. I admit, to jump back in and hear that Peter, John and Phil are not in the band saddened me. Yes, things change, and life goes on. I was a fan of DC Talk as well. Both had different sounds and great music. This union of Michael Tait with the Newsboys is bittersweet! Peter, please, please, please visit Maryland or Northern Virginia if Newsboys heads that way!!!!!
December 30th, 2009 on 3:59 am

I am a fan of the Newsboys, Michael Tait (as a solo artist) and of DC Talk…I am EXCITED that the Newsboys are part of the Hills Alive ‘10 line up this summer. What an experience to see two of my favorite artists (Newboys and Tait) singing together…what a treat for my teenage boys (who love them too) to experience. God is Good and is greatly to be praised!!!!!

At first I thought I had the wrong website when i saw that it said “Newsboys” and had a picture of Michael Tait in the mix. I was shocked. For so long Peter was the frontman and head of the group and did a fenominal job with them. It will be interesting to see how Michael adapts and creates a totally new sound for the group “Newsboys”. I have always been a Tait/DC Talk fan and have much respect for him. So it is up to God to show us just how much Newsboys will rock it with God’s praises. I pray you do great things through God’s strength and guidance Michael. God bless you and your new journey as a Newsboy.

Peter, thanks for all the years you spent as the vocal leader for the Newsboys. Hope you enjoy the time in bed and with your family. God bless you, brother. Michael, welcome to the group! I’m so glad you get to be a part of this awesome band. To God be the glory for this incredible change in the Newsboys band. GO JESUS GO! I’m expecting incredibly great and truly awesome things from you guys with Tate in the group, and I must say, your current 5 new songs rock! Specially Born Again and Light Up. I’m hooked on those two right now. And the way I see it, there couldn’t have been a better choice than Michael Tate to take your place, Peter. Farewell and may God bless you for the rest of your days, my friend. Hope to see you guys all together again at future events. NEWSBOYS, YOU ROCK! WOOHOO!
